One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

as a young child i encountered a lynx in the hills near my house while exploring by myself. i suppose out of innocence and genuine curiosity, i remained very still and we both stared at each other, very carefully for a while. and as i slowly stepped backwards to continue on my walk, it too ran off in the opposite direction. it wasn't until after it was gone and i began to think about how "wild" this animal was that i became scared. for many reasons, this particular moment has stood out for me as a lesson about gentleness and how we should approach one another despite our so-called differences.
