Cycling from UK to Singapore (and maybe beyond!)

ABOUT ME

Myself and James are currently cycling from UK to Singapore. We departed on 01/03/13 and have been either camping, staying in hotels or using Warmshowers (reciprocal hosting for cycle tourists). We were advised to sign up to couch surfing as it is more widely available...and that is what we've done!

PHILOSOPHY

Sometimes it's very easy to become caught up in the workaholic and consumerist society that the western world has become. James and I decided to sell up and head off on a simple adventure to travel around the world and experience life in different and unfamiliar cultures. By traveling on bikes, we are able to follow a slow pace and really appreciate the sights, smells and sounds as well as stopping to meet people along the way. Life is very short and we decided to spend this year living it fully!

We are both very easy going, relaxed people and love meeting new friends in different countries.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have stayed with people through Warmshowers and have really enjoyed the experience of arriving as strangers but leaving having made new friends. Sharing in other people's travel experiences has been really exciting and we have been so grateful for the kindness that people have shown in helping us complete our journey by bike across the world!

Interests

Cycling! We also are interested in gardening (we sold our gardening business to fund this trip), most sports and travel. We both have a keen sense for adventure which is why we are travelling on our bikes.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite movies include: The Goonies, Stand by Me, Jaws, Emperor's New Groove, Leon, Stardust...to many to list!

Favourite books include: To Kill a Mockingbird, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Goodnight Mister Tom, Wheel of Time.

Favourite music: where to start?! We both love Glastonbury music festival, so you could say our tastes are quite ecclectic!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess this cycle trip is the most amazing thing that I've done...and I'm still doing it!

Teach, Learn, Share

Above all we are looking to learn about different cultures. During our cycle trip, everywhere we visit (outside of France) will be new territory for us. It will be great to meet people and learn about the things that they love most about their home towns and countries! We can offer smiles, friendly conversation and will share in the experiences that we have had on out travels! We are also both well house trained!!
