ABOUT ME

i'm originally from california, but i've spent the past five years between boston, delaware, and baltimore. i currently spend the school year working as a mental health therapist in baltimore city schools, and i will be spending my summer as a college counselor in boston. i really, really love shopping, and i'm a workaholic to support my spending extravaganzas. i like to spend my free time traveling (i'm a big fan of road trips and just driving for scenery), but when i don't have gas, i'm perfectly fine with watching tv on the internet for hours. lastly, i LOVE the beach. i grew up really close to the beach, and i'm just in love with the salt water, the sand, the sun, and everything about being at the beach! although i'm allergic to most of them, i love all animals (except for large dogs), and i have a little bunny rabbit named Thelonius (yes, after Thelonius Monk).

PHILOSOPHY

i live to build relationships and to see the world through others' eyes. i love immersing myself in other people's lives, because life would be boring if i was the only one living it!

i couchsurfed through europe summer of 2011. i would love to host for the last month that i have my apartment...but moms is visiting, so i won't have extra space :(

Interests

i love black american music-listening to it, studying it from a sociological viewpoint, using it as a therapist, everything! i think it's so relative to so many different aspects of life and to history in general.

i also really love singing (i've sang in a gospel choir for 5 years).

i'm a big basketball fan- i love the lakers!

lastly, i love, love, love food. i'm not allergic to anything that i know of, so i will try literally anything and everything (even cow testicles- haven't done it yet, but if it's on a plate in front of me, i'm definitely trying it!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

in january 2011, i traveled to lesotho, and i visited a children's visit where i met two young men who had been abused when they were younger. now, they cannot use their legs, and they suffer from mental retardation. despite everything they have been through, they share a beautiful love for music. i have been singing in a gospel choir for 5 years now, and hearing these young men share a few gospel songs set in me the most amazing feeling that i will never, ever forget.

Teach, Learn, Share

i really like being in the kitchen, so i would love to exchange recipes with whomever i stay with. as i already stated, i love black american music (and music in general). i think music is one of the best ways to get a feel for another person, and i love and would totally be down for music exchanges.
