Hi! My name is Ashley (but you can call me AJ) - I'm a 26-year-old English teacher from Leicester in the United Kingdom. I currently live close to Yokohama in Japan and I'm looking to travel more around Asia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've travelled a bit and always felt like I was missing something. Staying in hotels and hostels is easy and comfortable but then it's easy to visit a place and leave a few days later without: a) meeting anyone local, b) learning anything about the culture and c) really experiencing the place.

So I want to try couchsurfing and connect with more people in the places I visit.

Interests

I love poker and I'm always up for a game. I only started playing in January 2014 but I've already clocked up many hours of live play and everything about the game fascinates me.

I also love to run! I get a fabulous feeling from a few miles in the woods or on a road somewhere and obviously it's great as it keeps me healthy.

I'm a big sport fan; Formula 1 and football especially, but I've also watched snooker, basketball, handball and ice hockey live.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like everything from Ludovico Einaudi to the Sugarhill Gang.

I don't watch a lot of movies, but Wolf of Wall Street is probably my favourite.

I like to read although I don't read as often as I could. I like books which can teach you something about yourself, and how to improve. I don't read fiction at all.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've finished a marathon (26 miles/42km)! It took a significant amount of time, energy and emotion but I'm really proud that I managed to do it and the medal for finishing is one of my most treasured possessions.
