About Me

Years of evading my small town roots has taught me that I'm not a city girl. I have a big heart, believe in the good in people and am chasing a simpler life.

When I cannot be found, it's often advised to look in the kitchen. I spend more time there than anywhere, as I always seem to have a project in the works, albeit homemade yogurt, bread from scratch, fermenting starters, an array of sprouts or a mountain of sterilized jars awaiting their next contents. Domesticity is a lost art among this generation, and it's something I'm excited to wrangle. It's safe to say that I'm an unabashed girly girl, or at least as much as a someone who works on a farm can be. Plaid and pretty dresses fill mutual space in my closet; a sparkly bow is always worn to the farmers market.

It's worth mentioning that I've moved seventeen times in five years, and while I love the brownie points that comes with owning very little and following my heart, I'm starting to see the value in ditching my nomadic tendencies and settling down in one place for awhile (wherever that may be). It's funny, the more self-sufficient I become, the more I value community.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My best buddy (@amysaurus) is a Couchsurfing veteran, so I came to it through osmosis. Thus far, I've met some of the most hospitable, friendly folks that I wouldn't have otherwise met. Love the sense of creating a global community!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Into the Wild, Winnie-the-Pooh, the Little House series, Radical Homemakers, several Eastern philosophy books (i.e., Yogananada, Vivekananda, Gandhi's biography, Thich Nhat Hahn), Holographic Universe, Prescription for Nutritional Healing and many'a cookbooks.

Movies: Amelie, Elf (smiling is my favorite!), Christmas Vacation, Dirt, I Heart Huckabees, Rear Window and Ratatouille. (I don't like dark, depressing stuff.)

Music - Always: David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Billie Holiday, Bon Iver, Sigur Ros, Bob Dylan, DeVotchKa, Joni Mitchell, Lykke Li, Explosions in the Sky, Fleet Foxes and Beach House. As of late: Lord Huron, Real Estate, Future Islands, The Maccabees, Mum, The Staves and most things on KEXP.

Teach, Learn, Share

When it comes to eating clean, whole foods (ideally ones with a vegetarian, vegan or an all around healthy bend), I tend to have a lot to share. Can help in the kitchen or garden. Endless discussion about holistic living/eating/healing is always a pleasure. Food justice is another subject I can nerd out on.

Happy to learn darn near anything you're willing to teach me!
