About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy life and do what makes me happy.

ABOUT ME

I am fun, a little bit quirky (sometimes a lot), and spontaneous. I am an English Literature teacher and Technology Coach.

I really just want to host on weekends so that I can spend some time with my guests, also it is difficult during the week because of my work schedule and hobbies.

PHILOSOPHY

Wherever you go, there you are.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Canada

Just moved back to my hometown, so won´t be doing a ton of hosting just yet, but am happy to meet up or give tips and advice!

-------------------------
Belgium:
I lived in Brussels for 3 years, so can explain all my favourite things about Brussels that aren´t just touristy things
There are free walking tours: http://www.newbrusselstours.com/
Free museum of Belgian artist (very good!): http://www.brusselsmuseums.be/fr/musee/50-mus%C3%A9e-meunier-museum-mus%C3%A9es-royaux-des-beaux-arts-de-belgique

I have a special book called Around Brussels in 80 Beers which proves to be quite popular haha. You might also want to look up a map called CafePlan which lists ALL the bars in the city and has a brief description of the place and the price of a basic draft beer.

I also recently acquired a great book about the different buildings around the Grand Place so you can read about all of them.

Things to do in Brussels:
- Grab beers from the corner store and drink by the Flagey ponds (or one of the bars - Le Pantin is my personal favourite).
- Head to the Parvis St. Gilles
- Enjoy the many cool cafes and restaurants
- Check out the awesome museums and art galleries (sooo many!!)
- Eat frites and try all the different sauces
- Laugh at how small manneken pis is and then eat a waffle while watching everyone take selfies of this miniature statue.
- Place du Chatelain market on Wednesday nights
- St. Gilles market on Monday nights
- Visit Delirium for the Guinness Record of biggest beer menu
- Flagey market on Sunday afternoon (mmm champagne and oysters)
- Visit Bizon Bar and surrounding area on weekends.

-------------------------

Colombia:
I provide advice on anything I can and will help out with Colombia or Bogota travel tips whenever possible!

A few tours in Bogota:

Tour Bogota on Bike
http://www.bogotabiketours.com/

The Graffiti Tour (I did this and it was awesome!)
http://bogotagraffiti.com/

Things to do in Bogota:
- Usaquen Market on Sundays
- Montserrate
- El camino de la vieja
- el catedral de sal
- Daytrip to Guatavita
- Day or overnight trip to Villa de Leyva
- buy cheap leather

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I love the community of couchsurfing. Soo many people just looking to share cultures, languages, experiences and make life interesting! We all help each other to have the best travel experiences possible. Thank you to everyone who has given me advice over CS!

Interests

I am interested in photography, reading, writing, pilates, Spanish, and interesting conversation on almost anything. I love board games and am a bit of a geek in that sense. I have Settlers of Catan, Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity if any Couch Surfers want to play those while they stay with me!

I love live music and would love to attend any concert!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Game, Dumb and Dumber, The Incredibles, Stranger than Fiction, Amores Perros, Todo Sobre Mi Madre, The Lion King, Inception, Terminator 1, 2 & 3. My mind has drawn a blank, but trust me, I like movies.

Books: Pride and Prejudice, World War Z, Oryx and Crake, The Handmaid's Tale, 1984, Brave New World, We, Woman in White, Wind-up Bird Chronicles, Sputnik Sweetheart, 100 Years of Solitude, The Elegance of the Hedgehog, Mr. Penubra´s 24 Hour Bookstore, Love in the time of Cholera ... can you tell I am an English Teacher?

Music: Rock, punk, indie. Too many to list. I love going to concerts!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rode over the Venezuelan jungle in a helicopter and explored waterfalls that are inaccessible by land.

Went on a night walk through the Amazon jungle in Colombia and swam with piranhas.

Carnival in Barranquilla (Feb 2012) - you need to live it to understand it.

Went caving in Rio Claro where there are natural waterslides within the cave! Sometimes you have to jump off rocks from one pool to the next.

Rode a camel in the Sahara desert to camp out in the middle of nowhere in Morocco.

Drank Malbec in Mendoza!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love having Couch Surfers with an interest in SLR photography. Talking shop about photography and travel makes for great dinner conversations.

I enjoy baking and cooking as well, so hanging out in the kitchen (I have a great kitchen!) always is fun.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share my travel tips, love of literature, geek out on music, I can cook a lovely meal, or I can just tell really bad jokes...
