About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be merry and learn something while I'm at it.

ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Ashley, but my friends like to call me Ash Nash. I'm from Arizona, so I'm a cowgirl in hiding who can also make you some authentic tacos. Right now I live in Bangkok with my girlfriend while she pursues a PhD in geography. I am a writer/traveler/giggler.

I like to listen to public radio, ride bikes, swim, drink beer, and eat hot dogs. I used to work for the government, so I like chatting about politics/policy, etc. But, I most enjoy talking about music and good books.

I studied International Relations, with a focus in Human Rights at Mount Holyoke College in western Massachusetts. At Mount Holyoke, I was quite active with the radio station, WMHC. I spent a lot of time in the station, because I was the Music Director, which means I listened to a lot of CDs every week and I wore (still wear) a lot of free band t-shirts.

PHILOSOPHY

Take me for what I am

I work hard, and I play hard.

Strong women, strong minds.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed while in college. I've hosted while living in DC. It's been awhile since I've done either but I'd like to do it again while traveling in Asia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed with people in Amsterdam, London, Nice, Barcelona, and Berlin. The best event was an all night beach party in Berlin. I've met amazing people through this site, and I think it's the best way to travel. I hate feeling like a lost tourist, and couch surfing seems like a nice way to blend in with the local culture.
So far, I think couch surfers are wonderful people!

Interests

concerts, thrift stores, indulgences like spas and nice hair salons, beautiful beaches, music on vinyl, spray paint, bicycles, hot dogs, Arizona style Mexican food, learning how to cook- I feel that I get better with every attempt, dancing when the music is right.

Music, Movies, and Books

too many movies to list. perhaps we could talk about it.

I like music that you have to dance to, especially when that dancing looks like a seizure. I also enjoy depressing, old fat man music. here's a few bands I listen to often- although I think lists limit yourself: Wand, Le Tigre, Peaches, The Thermals, Bright Eyes, Bob Dylan, The Headcoatees, Neutral Milk Hotel, Feist, The Ettes, The Epsilons, Black Lips, Be Your Own Pet.. ok, this gives you an idea.

Books by Edward Abbey, Abbey Hoffman, Luis Urea, Salinger, Augusten Burroughs, Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Kerouac, Hemingway, Tolstoy. I'm not really as pretentious as this list makes me sound.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I flew to Thailand without a plan.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Laos, Mexico, Netherlands, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Spain, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

Denmark, Thailand, United States
