About Me

Currently working as a teacher in Oman, as both a means of putting off my Ph.D. and to fund more travel...and to give me ideas for my novel...obviously.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a great way to meet locals while travelling and to hear about the travel of others when you're not.

Interests

I love learning about the culture, history, politics and languages of everywhere I visit. And hiking. Actually, any walking activity where you can absorb the atmosphere of a different place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books-Well, Literature is my field of study, so I have rather a lot of literary interests. I enjoy a selection of books from every era; Homer to John Le Carre. I like novels, poetry, philosophy and travel accounts. My favourite authors would be Henry Fielding, Evelyn Waugh, Kingsley Amis, Salman Rushdie, Graham Greene, Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence, James Joyce, Vladimir Nabokov Philip Larkin and John Steinbeck. I try to read a book from every country that I travel to; this can be difficult (it was really hard to find a book from Liechtenstein).

Music- I like a lot folk and psychedelic music; one of my favourite things when travelling, is hearing the different varieties from around the world. I enjoy all different genres from classical to modern pop. I especially like psychedelia The greatest album ever, Rubber Soul (of course). I listen to a lot of traditional English music in particular.

Films- A wide range; classic Hitchcock, Kubrick, Bergman and David Lean films to David Fincher and Wes Anderson. Particular titles, The Godfather, The Great Escape, Doctor Zhivago, Trainspotting, The Shawshank Redemption, Brief Encounter, Cool Hand Luke, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (any Sergio Leone film really), Rebecca (any Hitchcock film really) and, I'm not going to lie, I do have a slight love of Harry Potter and Bond films. Realistically, I like a bit from every genre.
Telivision- Some classics, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, M*A*S*H, The Twilight Zone and Seinfeld, as well as a lot of newer programmes; Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sherlock, Archer, Bored To Death, The IT Crowd, Broadchurch, The Bridge, The Killing (actually, most Danish television), Plebs, Misfits, Downton Abbey and many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Travelling to places like Nagorno-Karabakh (if you don't know it, look it up).

Teach, Learn, Share

Sorry, I don't know how to play any musical instruments, do yoga, make tie-dye t-shirts or string-anklets. However, I do try to know a fair bit about everywhere I live in or travel to, so I might be helpful with tours. I'm also rather a fan of different cuisines, so I can definitely take guests to cool restaurants (though I do value atmosphere over the food, so the meals may not always be great). I study English literature as well, so that's always fun to learn about on a holiday, yeah?

Learn- I love to learn anything offered; I live alone, so cooking skills are particularly appreciated. Languages, different cultures, whatever you have.
