To get through my last months of my Masters thesis and the Libyan crisis, and come out sane, happy, and loving!

ABOUT ME

Hey guys! I'm Ashraf (means honor in Arabic) from Al Jamil, a city about an hour from Tripoli - the capitol of Libya. Libya is a country in the north of Africa (THE CONTINENT) and is inhabited by primarily Arabs. (Sorry, most Americans unfortunately don't know that, so I always have to explain!). I'm a good natured guy, shy at first, but I can be fun and goofy, sometimes serious, sometimes silly. It all depends on what's going on in my life and how comfortable I feel with who I'm around. I've been in the U.S. since March of 2008 and didn't know any English when I got off the plane! I studied at intensive English programs in San Diego and Arizona State University (ASU), and now I'm in the final months of finishing up my thesis in pavement design at ASU. I like adventure and the outdoors (city and nature), trying new things - but not everything, sports-especially soccer/football and volleyball, playing ping-pong, and traveling. I sometimes adventure and try new food, but I love my traditional Libyan food! It's a mix of Arab, curry and spices, and Italian food all mixed together. I look forward to sharing my culture with others and to connecting with genuinely kind-hearted people.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to CS! One of my American friends from the ESL program I used to study at told me about this amazing thing. I couldn't imagine that such a thing existed, and that it's worldwide! I love to travel and meet new people, so I'm excited to have great CS experiences, and be a host when I am able to in the future.
