About Me

ABOUT ME

I thought I wanted to be an accountant until I actually was an accountant. I've since escaped the cubicle and have transitioned into the beautiful world of education. Moving from MN to Eugene a year ago is easily one of the best decision I've made - this city is full of people who have big, beautiful hearts and endless opportunities to get outside and play. I couldn't ask for more.

I'm hopelessly optimistic. If there's music, I dance. I still can't whistle.

PHILOSOPHY

Be present in every moment; keep a sense of humor; be kind and honest to people; do something that makes the world a better place. When in doubt, dance it out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think Couchsurfing is such a great opportunity to truly experience a place by getting an insider's perspective and seeing more than the tourist sites. I'm finally in a home and have a schedule that allows me to host, and I'm excited to give back to the CS community by showing visitors my favorite hikes, restaurants, and Eugene experiences.

Interests

I spend my days off in the woods and scheming my next big getaway. Last winter I spent 2.5 months traveling and volunteering my way around Southeast Asia and plan on making long-term travel a part of my life as long as a I can.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have an unreasonable obsession with all things Justin Vernon and indie rock in general but don't think I turn my nose up to Beyonce and J.T. Any music that makes me want to dance is good enough for me.

I read books about education, positive psychology, stoicism, travel, and everything in between.

Movies take me about a month to finish.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I recently spent several weeks teaching and living in rural Cambodia. Our classroom was populated by naked kids and chickens and our shower was a bucket. Life was simple and hard, but wonderful.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm getting pretty good at quickly acquiring frequent flier miles and learning the best ways to redeem them, and I'd love to share my knowledge with anyone looking to start hacking the mileage system as well.

I would love to hear about long-term travel experiences and tips, and any other words of wisdom about life you'd like to impress upon me.
