About Me

I got bitten by the travel bug early! My favorite stories as a child were my dad's travel stories of his adventures all over the world as a young man. After a few wonderful trips of my own with my folk while I was growing up, I was hooked, and I've been doing the best my budget allows ever since. Initially I got into writing with the intent of focusing on travel writing but am finding it difficult to tell a fresh story. Still looking, though!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've done the hostel scene, and would like to take it one step further and really make some connections with people who know the cities I'm visiting. Once I have a place of my own I'd like to host couchsurfers myself, but unfortunately my current living situation doesn't allow it. I really just want to meet new people and get fresh perspective on places!

Interests

I love to read and write, and obviously travel. I've also fairly recently discovered a love of baking and cooking, and love learning new recipes and baking for people! I also love food, especially food I've never tried! For me, food is a huge part of the travel experience, and most of my most colorful and precious memories of other places are of the food and the people I've shared it with.

Music, Movies, and Books

My musical taste is a bit all over the place, and if I had to pin down the majority of it, I would probably call my tastes alt-rock. However, on any given day you'd be just as likely to catch me listening to showtunes or Die Antwoord or Enya, depending on my headspace.

I love movies and television. Choosing a favorite is nigh impossible, but I'd have to say that for this year at least, I'm really digging Mad Max: Fury Road. The design was beautiful, the script was strong, there was excellent representation of characters and knowing how they did most of the stunt-work for real really blows my mind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swimming with bioluminescent plankton during a lightning storm in Cambodia definitely tops the list right now.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I strive to be a good Canadian guest: as polite and unobtrusive as possible. However, I like to think I have a fun personality and am generally pretty easy-going! As aforementioned, I love to bake, so if you have a kitchen and a few ingredients or a grocery store nearby, I whip up a mean orange-almond cake or spiced chocolate cupcake...
