About Me

NOTE: I will never host couchsurfers with zero references. It is possible to get references even if you've never surfed or hosted before.

ALSO: Please read my profile, they’re an important part of CS tradition, and a good way to see if you think you’d have a good time being my roommate! Tell me something about yourself, like what your favorite kind of art is?

Hi! I'm Andrew. Before we get started, I LOVE HOSTING! I believe in sharing what you've got, and I live in an apartment by myself in a beautiful part of the city. BUT PLEASE! Somehow, Couchsurfing has grown a little too big for itself. If you want me to host you, make sure it's about the CS experience, not just a free place to crash.

My only house rule is no cooking meat in the kitchen. I'm a longtime vegetarian, and would rather not have meat cooking in the house. If you want to bring home a meat sandwich or something that's fine, I'd just rather not smell it cooking in the house!

I've been in New Orleans three years now. I gave up my job at a hostel in town to devote more time to teaching at the local community college. I like reading, cocktails, chess, pool, card games, hiking, pretty much anything active and fun.

It's just me in an old, second-floor shotgun in Marigny. Sometimes I'm able to show you around, sometimes I'm caught up with work. The best kind of surfer understands this, and is down to chill but also down to entertain themselves. New Orleans is a big city with so many distinct neighborhoods. I'd love to show you around, either in person or on a map. There's more to it than Bourbon St.!

When I'm free, I like going out for cocktails, shooting pool, getting dinner, going to a movie, etc. I am what's known as a "quarter rat," which means I'm part of a small community of locals who actually hang out, live, and work in the quarter.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like hosting people during the year and traveling in the summer. Sometimes I need a place, sometimes I can offer a place. There’s also a bit of socialism involved: I’ve got a futon, why not share it?

I got my roots in Couchsurfing through the DIY music scene. In college, I used to operate a music venue out of my living room, and of course, all the musicians would stay over too. The largest number of people that have ever slept in my house is sixteen!

Interests

I like to play chess. I like to ride bikes. I like to go outside a lot. There’s a lot of nature in New Orleans that I’m proud to show off.

Talking about things and hypothetical questions.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like graphic novels and photography. I like to read contemporary poems and keep up with the literature in general. I went to school for poetry writing.

I enjoy dancing, even if I'm not much to look at while doing so. If you're down to go out, there are a few jazz and hip hop clubs in walking distance from my place.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Philippines, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Wales
