ABOUT ME

I play guitar, I have long hair, I'm interested in history, nature, and have a bachelor's degree in economics. I have a longstanding love affair with food of all types, and an interest in cooking. I like cats, weird music, and science fiction.

PHILOSOPHY

I am an anarcho-syndicalist and a semi-spiritual atheist (but don't worry, I'm not a jerk. People should believe whatever they want!). I'm into dialectical materialism and discussing philosophy in general. Basically, be nice to people, let workers control the means of production, and don't make anything illegal if there's no reason! I am also kind of a wannabe old-school intellectual. Nothing like critical thinking and logic!

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't think I've ever actually hosted anyone at my house, but I've met up with couch surfers before to show them around Olympia (where I used to live) and Seattle. I used CS to meet up with some cool people when I was in Cairo, too.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The summer after I graduated high school (before I knew about this site, even if it existed then) I spent a few weeks in Paris, France, with a friend of mine. It was a particularly excellent time, especially as he put me up for free (though I often paid for drinks...). Twas one of the most fun two weeks of my life.

I used CS to meet up with some cool people when I was in Cairo, too.

Intereses

I'm very interested in long conversations that lead around and back in on themselves.

Música, películas y libros

I like a lot of weird music. Doom metal like Earth, Electric Wizard, or Boris. Indie rock like the Halo Benders. I like classic garage rock a lot (the Sonics, the Seeds, the Gruesomes, the Stomachmouths), and more popular sixties rock like the Beatles/the Kinks/most British Invasion type music. I'm also really into post rock (Godspeed You! Black Emperor, ...As the Poets Affirm, Explosions in the Sky, the Red Sparrowes, A Silver Mount Zion). I'm going to see Godspeed in February! I'm so excited! Finally, I'm really into both punk music and hip hop. I especially like 70's punk like Television or Richard Hell and the Voidoids. I never stopped loving the Ramones either. Also 80's hardcore like Minor Threat, the Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains... For hip hop I love the Wu-Tang Clan, and the works of Boots Riley in the Coup. Finally I also listen to a smidgen of classical music (especially Dvorak) and opera.

Music is basically my life. I play with a couple bands -- lots of different stuff but always with a psychedelic sound. I'm one of those guys who uses a lot of effects pedals. I can talk about music a lot in case you couldn't tell. I'm particularly interested in going to concerts! Doubly so in other countries.

As far as books goes, I read a lot of science fiction and history books. The older I get the more nonfiction I read and I'm not sure how I feel about this! For movies, I'm in a similar place. I like science fiction and documentaries! Blade Runner, Alien, Star Trek, and Mad Max are some of my favorites. I dabble in (poorly) writing myself and have several unfinished novels lying around.

I think Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite director, animated or live action, foreign or domestic.

I also dig propaganda films (especially from WWII) for some reason. I know it's all bullshit but I'm just entertained by how inspiringly-presented the bullshit is haha!

Algo increíble que he hecho

Seattle WTO Protests, November 1999

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I will talk about history for hours with anyone. Politics/economics too. I love meaningful conversations in general, but I think it's important to keep them conversations rather than arguments.

I'm up for learning anything, but especially "useful" things, like skills; mechanics, etc.

I've studied a lot of different languages but am fluent in none except English, because I'm pretty lazy when it comes to rote memorization. But I like to think I have a pretty good grasp on the language...
