About Me

CURRENT MISSION

meet inspiring people and discover more forms of collective living/struggling

ABOUT ME

I volunteer at a social center called the cream city collectives (http://creamcitycollectives.wordpress.com) and a free STD clinic. I like to read, scheme, and do nice things for people, including myself. Right now I'm feeling a need for adventure and traveling seems like the best way to satisfy that.

I'm chatty and communicative about my needs and desires. I'm independent, tidy, and flexible. I like checking in to make sure people are comfortable.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm not any more entitled to a space on this planet than any other living thing. Yet, as another living thing, I am entitled to a home and the means to live with dignity.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was involved with the Milwaukee CS community from 2008-09. In that time, I hosted many surfers, traveled western Europe under a joint account with only1earth/Allie LeCapitaine, hosted and participated in Milwaukee CS events, and did some research on CS use. Since then I've taken a bit of a break from CS and am now looking to put my energies back into this project.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted people many times, participated in local CS meet-ups, and surfed in several cities in western Europe with only1earth/Allie LeCapitaine. See many more references for me there.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One thing I'll never forget is the existential tumult I felt when I saw the Paris catacombs and the Louvre museum in a twenty four hour period. The first, a burial site consisting of sprawling hallways lined with stacks of bones left me with a feeling of how utterly inconsequential any individual's life is. Un-named, and organized roughly by bone type (femur, skull, tibia..) rather than by skeleton set, the thousands buried there were irrevocably mixed about in a way that denoted some great collective presence that erased any individual significance. The following day, however, I visited the Louvre where the masterful work of hundreds of individuals was being preserved for eternity. Thousand year old work connected to the biography of its creator made for a celebration of individuals and their significance. The extreme difference between these feelings made for quite the gulf to ponder, especially when mindful of the ways class played into these narratives.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help make computers work, show you how to pirate stuff (more) safely, talk about booking DIY shows, explain screen printing and wine making.

I'd like to learn more about DIY architecture and interior design. I'm fascinated by large open spaces that have been converted into functional & quirky group living spaces and I'd like to learn more about the process.
