About Me

Hello! My name is Audrey. I am 24 years old and I am a current graduate student. I am studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling and I am very excited about it! (I can talk about it for days) I have worked for the last 5 years as a direct support professional with adolescents and young adults with disabilities and their families. As a clinician it is imperative that I act always as an advocate for the populations that I work with and also other populations that are underserved, oppressed, and discriminated against. Definitely very passionate about social justice! I also love to read, listen to music and sing, hike, rock climb, dance, help cook communal meals, make art (many mediums), ride my bike, run, and try new things. I am always open to learning something new and getting out of my comfort zone.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to travel and meet new people and with the stressors of graduate school, I make it a priority to make time for travel and self care. In 2018, I was fortunate enough to be able to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. It was the experience of a lifetime and because of it I have made connections with so many wonderful people that I otherwise wouldn't have met. Through those connections I was able to stay in so many unique places and experience a multitude of communities. In that specific experience I didn't have to use Couchsurfing often, however I loved the sense of community that those connections built and I loved getting to know all of the hosts and the area in which they lived. I want to continue traveling/seeing new places, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

Choosing absolute favorites is difficult for me, however here are some of the general books, music, and movies/tv shows that I have enjoyed:

Books: Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, most things by Kurt Vonnegut, Angie Thomas's The Hate U Give, Stephen King (Needful Things, It, pretty much anything), Roboert M. Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, The Harry Potter series, all things Terry Tempest Williams, Michael Pollan's How to Change Your Mind, and Peter Benchley's Jaws.

Movies: V for Vendetta, Captain Fantastic, pretty much anything by Wes Anderson, Animal House, Black Swan, Leon the Professional, Hard Candy, The Holiday, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, (500) Days of Summer, Get Out, Hereditary, It, Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, Enemy at the Gates, Across the Universe, Studio Ghibli films, and Disney/Pixar animation.

TV Shows: Broad City, High Maintenance, The Twilight Zone, Stranger Things, Rick and Morty, That 70's Show, Law and Order, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Freaks and Geeks, Community, Six Feet Under, Futurama, Band of Brothers, Saturday Night Live, Game of Thrones, and Bob's Burgers.

Music: Atta Boy, Handmade Moments, Cat Clyde, Vulfpeck, Lake Street Dive, The Dip, Local Natives, Kublai Khan, Hozier, The Chats, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Kendrick Lamar, Bahamas, Bonny Doon, Bully, Childish Gambino, Flora Cash, Glass Animals, L'Entourloup, Vundabar, Rebelution, Electric Guest, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, AND SOOOOO MUCH MORE. Music is therapeutic for me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hiked 173 days consecutively from Amicalola State Falls in Georgia, over 2,190 miles to Mount Katahdin in Maine. (2018 Thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail)

Teach, Learn, Share

In my undergraduate studies I mentored psychology and finite mathematics, so if you want to talk about those topics I would happily discuss what knowledge I have (hahaha). I can teach things about camping, hiking, climbing, and I’m a certified yoga instructor! So, we could have a yoga class at your house, invite all your neighbors and we can all get our yoga on! I am always hoping to learn more about any and everything! I am happy to swap stories and I also love listening to others! Please teach me all of your skills/ about your passions!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am very outgoing. My nana always says "Girl, you'd talk to a brick wall if you thought it was listening" and that I could talk to anyone about anything. I am notorious for talking to strangers, asking to pet peoples dogs, asking to hold their babies, and hugging people I just met. I also tell very bad jokes, and overall exhibit a lot of optimism without it being unrealistic. I also generally do not have a filter, I act very authentically to myself and my values; I only sensor myself if I think that my actions/words might cause harm to others.
