About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Every year I visit at least one country/territory from the Travelers' Century Club that I've never been to before.

ABOUT ME

I am Canadian and I am living on a working holiday visa in New Zealand. I speak good German so you can message me in German if you are shy with English (wir können auf Deutsch reden, wenn es für dich besser passt).

I am a recent traveller, I had never been on a plane until I went overseas for the first time at the end of April 2012 at the age of 21. I got to live in Italy for a month and it was amazing. Being there ignited this love of travelling deep inside me.

PHILOSOPHY

I live to travel and travel to live.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing years ago because I didn't want to pay for a hostel in Rome and l wanted to live like a local. I am so happy I made the decision to join this community, it has completely changed my life for the better. I have met so many amazing people here and made a lot of friends, many of whom are now my best friends. I have learned about so many cultures and I've listened to so many interesting stories and life experiences and I never want these experiences to stop.

**Note** Couchsurfing is not a dating site. I don't use it as a dating site and neither should you.

**Note** If you don't have a reference I will not respond back to you

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Rome, Italy and Launceston, Tasmania twice. I hosted in Edmonton, Canada in summer 2012 and I had a great time meeting people from all over the world. I also couchsurfed once in London, England; Calgary, Canada; and in Adelaide, Australia. I also go to CS events at home and abroad regularly. Couchsurfing is the best way to travel and make new friends anywhere you go. You get to meet so many new people and learn about other cultures at the same time!

Interests

When the opportunity presents itself I like playing sports, soccer is my favourite. I enjoy reading, writing, and blogging. I like to keep active outdoors, rather than inside. I like to cycle and walk through parks and go to the beach. When I'm in the mountains I like to hike and ski.
I am a patron of the arts. I enjoy checking out new artists and broadening my taste in music and art by going to concerts and museums. My favourite band to see live is Coldplay. I also sing and did it competitively back in the day but I can't play any instruments.

Music, Movies, and Books

I hate horror films and I thoroughly enjoy comedy. When life gets heavy I find that laughter is the best medicine. I adore music, especially rock. I'm more into bands than DJs. I get a lot of inspiration from international music and movies. Canada produces amazing musicians, I can introduce you to some if you're interested.
When it comes to books, I like reading classic literature, political philosophy, and historical books both fiction and non-fiction. My favourite book from Canada is Anne of Green Gables. There are many good Canadian writers that I can show you if you're interested.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Albania: Going on the Dajti Express in Tirana with backpackers from my hostel and winding up in a forbidden military zone, where we had the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains
Australia: Discovering Tasmania
Austria: Eating Pfifferlinge at an Alm restaurant in Innsbruck, a special treat since they are only available two weeks out of the year
Canada: Hiking through the Rocky Mountains for 7 hours in Lake Moraine, Banff with International students
Croatia: Swimming in the Adriatic Sea for the first time in Dubrovnik
England: Going to Victoria and Albert Museum in London, it's massive and full of world history and it's free!
Germany: Becoming fluent in German after participating in an internship program in Leipzig for four months, where most of my colleagues didn't speak English
Iceland: Drinking fresh water directly from a stream on top of a mountain after a hike around the Whale Fjord with a lovely Icelandic family
Italy: Taking part in Critical Mass in Rome
Macedonia: Swimming in Lake Ohrid, the most beautiful lake I have ever swam in
Montenegro: Climbing up St. Ivan's Fortress in Kotor and taking in the stunning view from below
Netherlands: Drinking Vla pudding from a 1 litre carton in Enschede
New Zealand: Snorkeling for the first time in my life at Goat Island, the first established Marine Reserve in the country
USA: Driving from Whitehorse, Yukon down through the western states to Tijuana Mexico with my family when I was 5 years old
Vatican: Seeing Raphael's School of Athens and the Augustus of Prima Porta in the Vatican Museums

Teach, Learn, Share

One thing that I have learned from my travels is that kindness is a universal language. You can meet a person that does not speak a word of your language but through their actions you can feel their kindness. Actions truly do speak louder than words and it's amazing to experience it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a lot of random travel stories to share as well as excellent listening skills. I like to cook. I try and be as clean as possible when I come to other people's homes. I love learning about other people's cultures and traditions and to hear interesting stories. A lot of people tell me that I'm funny and I can make most people laugh, so if you like comedy and laughter you will like me.
