About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My mission is to meet lots of like minded people to myself, serious or eccentric or otherwise.I am sure there are heaps of people out there in Couch-surfing land worth meeting and wish to share a bit of where I live.

ABOUT ME

Me, well I was born a kiwi but I have been over in Australia 37 years so I am now an Aussie, especially when we follow the cricket, rugby and various other great things about being an Aussie.I spent 18 years in the Northern Territory, firstly at Ayers Rock(Uluru) where I became a tour-guide but also a place where people from all over the world came and was fun to show them places.I developed a need to expand my horizons and was able to visit some of them overseas in their country.I have been able to travel to many parts of the world.I have extensively been to America and driven across from New York to Seattle and had a ball. Some weird and wonderful places I was able to visit on the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have been a member now for almost 7 years and now its about time to surf the couches somewhere, somehow. Watch out couchsurfer's.I have really enjoyed hosting and love to see my guests reactions to Kangaroo Island especially when they see a wild koala or an echidna or birds of all types.Keep coming couchsurfers.

Interests

I have a lot of interests relating to my work. I like reading stuff about history, geology, anthropology. I subscribe to various magazines that look great in my library. My other passion is collecting books, rare first editions or limited editions. My prize one is one I bought in England years ago,a travel book about a journey down the Rhine and was published in 1817.Forerunner to Baedekers maybe. I have a few other curiosities too.
I surf the internet for strange stuff and are a member of several social sites for chatting etc.
I am also collector of the unusual, the trivial of any type.I pick up some stuff that I can drop in to my tours.Sometimes putting something unusual into the tour can make people remember the day better.

Music, Movies, and Books

Being on Kangaroo Island it may be difficult to get to a cinema but I get up occasionally to the city to see some movies but now I have my widescreen LCD its like have a cinema at home,I can wait for the dvd. I have an extensive collection of dvd movies. I like trying to acquire odd or rare movies. I have most movies converted to Mp4's now on hard drives.

I also have a broad selection of music and can keep most people interested in something. My range is from Classical to easy listening and even a bit of up to date modern music because I just like it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have stood inside the most amazing building in the world(in my opinion anyway) The Taj mahal in India. An amazing romantic built it and I like the story of its builder Shah Jahan.
I have been inside the Great Pyramid near Cairo Egypt. Not a great experience in my opinion.A toilet for the locals LOL
I have swum in the Amazon at Manaus where the 2 rivers join.I swam in the Rio Negro, clearer and warm than the Solimnoes, the muddy and cooler one.
I have viewed the Northern Lights on one frozen night near Banff in
Alberta, minus 30 at the time and was a fantastic experience.
I have been up the World Trade Centres that do not exist now.
I had a life changing experience in 2005 at Gallipoli on ANZAC day and standing at the very beach where the spirit of ANZAC was formed in the blood of our soldiers was a very sobering time.
October 2008 I walked the Queen Charlotte Walk in Marlborough New Zealand to tell myself that I could do a series of long walks. First day 14 klms, Second day only 12 klms but day 3 was 24 klms and the fourth day was 22,total 72 klms.fantastic walk.
Last year I fell hopelessly in Love with a beautiful Spanish Girl.We are apart now(her choice) but I am even more in love now than ever.I need to go to Spain learn the language and live there to be with her. That experience almost eclipses any other experience in my life.
I have experienced many other things that I will add over time.
I have just experienced seeing an amazing animal,a baby echidna or Puggle,no spines and just a small handfull.Double WOW
Whilst getting some dental work done in Mumbai India I took the opportunity to re-visit Agra and the Taj Mahal in the Digital age for updating photos and things.
Visiting Christchurch New Zealand before and after the earthquakes was a very sobering experience in the wounded city also.
