About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living, learning and loving Estonian

ABOUT ME

Am currently living with Kati and bouncing between Viljandi and Tartu. Am learning estonian and looking to create more of a life here for myself :)

Previous to this we were in SE Asia and China (which was amazing!)and traveled in Oz for a few weeks : )

Previous to this have been studying and working in Sydney, and spending time with friends and family after being away for almost 2 years. My girlfriend (now wife :)) from Estonia came across to see both me what this whole 'Australia' thing is all about.

Previous to this I was in Estonia for a month with my girl Kati. In that time we also visited Helsinki, Spain and Portugal before I took that looooong flight back to Oz.

Previous to this I lived with Kati in north west England in the pretty little city of Chester; home to Roman ruins, black and white Tudor buildings and apparently popular with tourists and ghosts.

Previous to this I left Australia in July 06 and have been travelling through Europe, including living for about five months in Estonia. Basically I've been living an adventure that I never thought I would end up having :)

I'm a fairly laid back guy but love the spark of doing new things and meeting new people.

PHILOSOPHY

My current thoughts are that personal beliefs and attitudes seem to be one of the most important influences on a persons life. For example, if you believe that travelling and experiencing new things is worthwile for yourself and the world, then you may surf many couches and meet many people. If however, you believe that travelling is not really worth the effort and you'd rather spend your time dressing up your chihuahua, then you will probably have never gotten this far into this website and we will probably never meet. Essentially your life and personality are a reflection of what you believe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'd love to participate by practicing what couchsurfing is all about...learning about other people and places and sharing something of myself as well.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Kati and I have hosted some lovely people via CS, surfed for the first time in Edinburgh during crazy festival time and also stayed with some great ppl in Britain, Spain, Berlin, Beijing and Hong Kong.

I've also stayed with friends occasionally while travelling and have lived on my girlfriends' parents loungeroom floor in Estonia for a couple of months.

Interests

I'm a pretty curious and open-minded guy so I am interested in quite a range of things. A random list of interests could possibly include ecology, Bjork, politics, natural beauty, philosophical dilemmas, landscapes, british accents (there's soooo many!), origami, tasty vegetarian food, the way eucalyptus trees move in the wind (hmmm maybe I am getting a bit homesick)

Kati is energetic and also has a very friendly, curious and open-minded nature. Her passion is for dance (contemporary, folk, modern and sometimes ballroom and latin). She is currently working in the rahvakultuur (folk culture) field and also teaches Estonian folk dance to three different dance groups.

Music, Movies, and Books

I often enjoy books, movies and music that resonate or teach me something about myself, other people or an aspect of my life and the world, or simply help me to laugh or experience something out of the ordinary. Am currently reading an excellent book titled 'An Introduction to Foreign Language Learning and Teaching'. That possibly sounds a little dry, but as I'm about to teach english and am learning Estonian, there's a lot within this book that I can relate to :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walking on a black and white (ash and ice) glacier in Iceland.

Teach, Learn, Share

I guess I know at least little bit about a lot of things and I'm sure I can share something new and interesting with you!

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam
