About Me

Hey everyone! My name is Austin and I've lived in Chicago for three years. For the first time ever, I have a job where I get weekends and a handful of vacation days and I plan to use them to the fullest. I am laid back and very low maintenance. Cemeteries are the first thing that I go to in a new city. I'm coooooool with whatever. I've done a lot of stateside traveling but I am looking to expand my horizons!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love meeting new people, and after living in Chicago, I've learned that getting a taste for a city from a native is 100% better than building your sightseeing list based on a SkyMall article.

Interests

Reading, board games, concerts, comedy writing, dabbling in bass guitar, cooking, exploring my small neighborhood of Avondale, religious and racial reconciliation (my work), perfecting the grilled cheese sandwich

Music, Movies, and Books

Hard to narrow down to a small window. Here are three of each that are on my mind right now:
The Boatmans Call - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Station to Station - David Bowie
Carrie and Lowell - Sufjan Stevens

Drive
Best in Show
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Serendipities - Umberto Eco
House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - Philip K. Dick

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Waited in the rain for an hour with Dr. Jane Goodall while we waited for an Uber

Teach, Learn, Share

I love talking about music, especially new wave. I love learning about religions (especially indigenous traditions that can't be distilled to a encyclopedia entry). I have recently perfected a gumbo recipe, so if you have seven hours...
I want to learn how to make better cocktails.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A laugh and some tales from the City of Broad Shoulders. Spelling tips from my term as county spelling bee champion. A game of catch with a frisbee. Grilled cheese.

Countries I’ve Visited
