About Me

I am spending this semester studying abroad in Germany on my 5th study abroad program. I love to travel, learn more history and languages, and experience new cultures. I tend to be a bit shy/quiet in person, but I will open up quickly if you get me talking about the right things! I consider myself to be a nice and respectful person, and I try to be a man of my word. I have always stayed in hostels, hotels, dormitories, or with a host family, so CS seemed like a good way to have a new kind of travel experience. Usually I do not get to have much interaction with locals, and I would really like to change that.

Most of my hosts will probably be somewhere in Germany, so for those people, I can speak a little German. This is my third year studying the language, and I could always use more practice, as my speaking and hearing need a lot of work.

If you have any questions about me, feel free to ask me in a message!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I USE COUCHSURFING

I want to meet and learn from locals in the destinations that I visit, as interaction with locals is something that I have not gotten to experience often. I find all cultures, ways of life, religions, and backgrounds interesting to hear about and discuss, and I am very open-minded. I travel alone on many occasions, so this also provides me with someone to talk to and explore with during my stay. I also want to build up my reputation and credibility on this site, so that when I go backpacking through Europe later this year, I can do so in a more memorable and personable way (not to mention cheaper). While price is certainly a factor for students like myself, be assured that I will NOT treat your home, your belongings, or you like a hostel.

WHY I DO NOT HOST (except for extreme circumstances)

I am currently living in a student dormitory, and therefore have a very small room with a very small bed. It would be possible for a small person to share the bed, assuming they were okay with bodily contact throughout the night. My floor is always open and clean, but that is not a very comfortable place to sleep. However, I enjoy helping people in need, so for those with absolutely no options left in Regensburg, I am willing to offer what I have.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies - Gladiator, V for Vendetta, Saving Private Ryan, Kingdom of Heaven, Marvel movies, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, generally any movie that involves history, combat, or sci-fi

Music - Primarily techno (and all its variants), classic rock, and pop. Open to just about any music except for rap, as I find the lyrics to be incredibly vulgar with little artistic value, in most cases. I enjoy discovering traditional and modern music from other countries and cultures.

Books - I read a variety of books in the fantasy and sci-fi genres. Usually my interest gets piqued by the synopsis on the front/back cover of the book. I spend the majority of my reading time with Warhammer books. I play the tabletop game, and find it to be one of the most interesting, complex, and diverse universes ever crafted.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So far I've gotten through college debt-free thanks to scholarships and hard work, so for an American student, that is quite an amazing feat! I am also currently on my 5th study abroad program. I am incredibly grateful for this, as most students never get to go once.

I also did some volunteer work in Belize. I went with a student group to a local high school, where we upgraded their network infrastructure, overhauled their current computer systems at the time, installed wireless throughout the school, and even repainted their computer lab!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always willing to learn more and teach what little I know. I can share a lot about my hobbies and my travel experiences, and would enjoy hearing the stories of others as well!

What I Can Share with Hosts

An open mind, a yearning for discovery, respect, kindness, and a quiet guest. =) If I know far enough in advance, I always try to bring some kind of gift to my host in appreciation. I can also share my knowledge of the USA, computers, gaming, and English for those who are interested.
