About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Living and such.

ABOUT ME

So yeah, pretty chill person. Got a degree in mathematics, was working as a data analyst in the US for a few years, then moved to Budapest to study Hungarian. Currently teaching math-y things to high school students, translating books and stories and things :D

I drink excessive amounts of coffee. Pretty sure my body is now immune to caffeine. Which is, you know, probably not a good thing?

Vegetarian-ish, the exception being when I'm traveling and obviously have to try local specialties. I don't care one bit if you eat meat for every meal of your life though. Just don't throw a hamburger at my face while I'm not looking.

PHILOSOPHY

Be a good person and do awesome shit.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Started surfing while I was studying in Budapest in 2013, then mostly hosted while living in the states. Hope to do both now that I'm back in Budapest, love both sides of it!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I swear by this site. Phenomenal community.

Interests

Languages, mathematics/philosophy/linguistics, old horror movies, music, coffee, beer and whiskey, running, dogs (don't tell my cat about that last one).

And breakfast food, obviously.

Music, Movies, and Books

Always down to try out new genres, but some favorites are:
Music:
Cat Power, Soundgarden, Polica, Anyam es nyulam, Cecil Otter, Dessa, Doomtree, Radiohead, The Black Keys, The Dandy Warhols, The Faint, lots of jazz musicians. Been getting really into heavy metal in the last year or so.

Movies:
I love horror movies, especially from the 30's, and more especially anything with Bela Lugosi in it. And anything from Guillermo del Toro or the Coen Brothers.

Books:
I'll happily read almost anything someone else recommends, but I love stuff from Clive Barker, Kurt Vonnegut, Ray Bradbury, H.P. Lovecraft. All time favorite is House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. My attention span is pretty minimal, so I love short stories collections. Can get down with some epic poetry once in a while, The Divine Comedy is definitely a favorite.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"'Course I ain't never been to London, and I ain't never seen France. And I ain't never seen no queen in her damned undies, so the feller says. But I'll tell you what...I guess I seen somethin' every bit as stupefyin' as you'd see in any of them other places."

Teach, Learn, Share

I can probably teach you how NOT to cook just about anything. Or some mathematical proof techniques if that's your thing.

Oh and I can juggle for 3 seconds, sometimes 4. So there's that.

In all seriousness, I love languages and would love to learn some of yours (especially interested in Hungarian and Albanian right now)!
