About Me

After working for 2 years in Barcelona I've decided it was enough and organized a kayaking trip in Siberia (on the Vitim river). Long story short it did not quite go as planned so now I am in China thinking what to do next (figured it out: buy a motorbike and drive South). And since I unfortunately broke up with my girlfriend just before leaving I don't have anything to go back to. So no strings attached.

So.... I am riding through China on a local motorbike - Haojue HJ125-F - with the dream of reaching Laos (by the end of September?). I am up for beers, parties, deep conversations or travelling together!

MBTI type: INTP or ISFP (depending on which part of my personality I focus when doing the test).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Hosting people is much more fun than I'd ever thought it could be. So far mostly positive experiences and I hope it will stay that way :-)

Interests

There was a time, when I was young and read lots of books. That time is unfortunately over as time is more more hard to find just as good unread books. But if you know anything Huxely-Herbert-Bukowski-Burroughs-Bulhakov-Camus-like be sure to let me know. I'll be more than happy to read it :-)

Well, that is not entirely true anymore as I've reading a bit of sci-fi lately: Peter Watts and his amazing Echopraxis and Blindsight; the epic Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson; the brutal "Reach" trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer; and once again all 6 books of the immortal Dune series :-)

What moves me apart from books? Music! Mainly electronic, chillout, ambient or downtempo. Good post-rock is also nice, but what I like most is dancable :-) [check the next section for details ;-)]

In the past, before starting a regular job I used to travel much more. Went twice to Afghanistan to climb virgin peaks there and ride a horse following the footsteps of Marco Polo. Learnt to ride a motorbike in Indian Himalayas on a machine I bought in New Delhi. Explored not-so-often-visited regions of Northern Somalia. And a few things more... Like driving with a 4x4 from Los Angeles to Tierra del Fuego :-)

Apart from that? A bit of trekking, mountaineering, paragliding, spelunking (caving), decent computer games (e.g. Civilization series) and whatever catches my fancy at the moment.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'd love to write a list, but I hardly remember all of the stuff I like. So maybe a few bands I listen to lately? That would be: Manu Chao, Young American Primitive, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Knife, Fever Ray, Pink Floyd, Mono, Dj Shadow, Tricky, Portishead, Coil, Current 93, Death in June, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Future Sound of London, Ulver, Kazik, Mulatu Astatke, Alice Coltrane, Eddie Vedder, Zen Mechanics, Ace Ventura, Atmos, Loud, U-Recken, Juno Reactor, Neil Young, Alva Noto, Autarkic, Moderat, Justice, Vitalic, Beach House, Slowdive, Thievery Corporation and my absolute favorite: CARPENTER BRUT (say hello to dark synthwave! the 80's are back and are scarier than ever! ;-))

Movies? Hard to say. I was really impressed by Apocalypse Now, liked Lynch's Dune (and the book it was based on even more), Jarmusch's Dead Man as well as Only Lovers Left Alive and probably a hundred others. From newer accomplishments of the the moving images industry Interstellar was one that I enjoyed.
