About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Playing ukulele and bicycle touring

ABOUT ME

I am a traveler, thinker and tinkerer living in Melbourne, Australia but originally from San Francisco.

PHILOSOPHY

Doing right and being kind solely for the sake of it with no questions asked and no promise of reward. I believe in a life that is full of silliness, mischief and kindness. Be open, have a warm heart, lose your ego and do what you love.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I started my couchsurfing in Europe while I was living in Spain for a year in 2008-9. I surfed and hosted and well, fell in love with couchsurf.

I also live communally with three other wonderful humans who also participate in couchsurf. Sometime we co-host!

I am looking forward to picking up my couchsurfing participation in 2013. The first half I will be exploring Australia, based in Melbourne and the second half, who knows! But I will have a lot more time than I do now so that means more time for couchsurf.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not only have many of the people I have met through couchsurfing been really cool people... they have been some of the most amazing human beings on earth. I am so thankful for the kindness I have received during my travels. I look back upon some of my experiences with surfers and hosts as some of the most lovely times of my life. I also met my last partner through couchsurfing a few years ago and could never express the amount of gratitude I have for that gift.

My first host, Michel, took me on a whirlwind tour of Switzerland in 3 days. It's funny because those days were so vivid and wonderful that they stand out more than months, maybe even years! Having the best host a person could ask for set me off down the right path and helps me do couchsurfing right.

Interests

I love all that good universal stuff that brings people together. You know, the stuff that no matter where you go you find it in common with other people.. MUSIC, DANCE, AND FOOD. Building community and great public spaces are really important to me.

I also like hoop dance, landscape architecture, secrets and books with nice covers.

Music, Movies, and Books

movies - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Amelie and Big Fish and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

books - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer and ANYTHING and EVERYTHING ever written by Kurt Vonnegut. He is my personal hero.

gee whiz.. can't even start with music... but I think a lot of people feel this way. If it's good, it's good. I guess lately I've been into American bluegrassy/folky stuff and bass heavy electronic dance stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fireflies in fields as far as the eye can see after trekking through a muddy jungle alllll day long and then missing the last bus back into town and then having my sandal break and having to walk the 11 km back to town barefoot. Ahhh.. love you Costa Rica.

Sunrise in desert. Particularly Joshua Tree or Black Rock City. Equally beautiful and completely different. Gah.. I love the desert.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll add things as I learn them...
- really make sure you are on the right train
- laugh at yourself. really do it.

Best Rice Recipe:
-how ever much rice you put in the pot, put EXACTLY that amount of water (EXACTLY!)
- put the pot on high heat until it starts boiling. IMMEDIATELY remove the pot from high heat, put the lid on the pot and the pot on the lowest heat you can. (dont use the lids with the little holes in it.. the point is to keep the steam inside)
- from that second, leave the covered pot on the low heat for exactly 15 minutes
- take the pot off the heat and put it on NO HEAT AT ALL for exactly 10 minutes
- voila! yummy rice!
- the key is to be exact and keep the steam in, DO NOT OPEN THE POT!
(works best on short or long grain white rice)
