HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am happy to meet new people in my city. I would like to host but am currently unable to as I live with other graduate students whose boundaries I respect. In the future, I hope to be able to host, and also be hosted.

Interessen

Reading (news, fiction and non-fiction) for fun but also as part of my job (teaching/research);
Concocting recipes and trying them out (necessary to survive);
Wandering around parts of the city that I live in or am passing through;
Dancing, attempting to cook, play football and click photograps.

Musik, Filme und Bücher

This is always such a long long never-ending list, but some excerpts:

Music: Grew up on the Beatles, Bob Marley, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rajan and Sahan Mishra, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna and keep going back to these. Love Rock (classic such as Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Van Halen, ACDC but also GnR, Nirvana, Indian Ocean, Pearl Jam, Franz Ferdinand, The White Stripes, etc); and also anything with good percussion, beats, strings and/or depth such as in Jazz (MJQ, Tananas, Fela Kuti, Soweto String Quarter), or Hindustani (Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain) or "Desi" music (Red Baraat, Bally Sagoo, some bollywood), 90s/early 2000s hip-hop/rap (Dr Dre, Tupac Shakur, Run D.M.C, The Fugues, Eminem) or eclectic-genre-bending electronica (Tabla Beat Science, Bassnectar, Flying Lotus).

Movies: Some all-time favorites include Pather Panchali, Charulata Amadaeus, Bend it like Beckham, Calendar Girls, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, The Sound of Music, Sherlock Holmes (Granada TV series, Jeremy Brett), Jeeves and Wooster (BBC). Some others that I have seen and really liked --- The Producers, Wait Until Dark, Lage Raho Munnabahi, Volver, Caramel, Pipli Live, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Kutty Srank, Sixth Sense, Where Eagles Dare, Madagsacar, Shrek, 101 Dalmations, etc.

Books (fiction) from the top of my head --- Dune, Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Wuthering Heights; and authors whom I have really enjoyed reading are Enid Blyton, P.G.Wodehouse, Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, Vikram Seth, Jhumpa Lahiri, Mary Higgins Clark, to name just a few. As far as non-fiction is concerned, I am really fascinated by history, read a lot on economics and wish I had more time to read around the idea of nationhood and society.

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe

Coming face to face with a gigantic wild African Elephant and realizing (duh!) that wild elephants are not the gentle creatures that domesticated, Indian temple elephants are.
