PHILOSOPHY

I get restless in one place. I have what you may call "the bug." (That's the travel bug if you were wondering!) I want to experience as much of the world as is possible, and in a real way, not from a purely tourist's perspective. Of course, I will always be a foreigner in a foreign land and will never see the country as its people see it... it is a great impossible paradox, but it is the thing I struggle with. I make sure, wherever I am, to be open to the different opinions, beliefs, and lifestyles that I encounter. I have so many different interests, some realized and some not yet, that spread me thin trying to do them all. I have thus become a sort of "jack of all trades" rather than an expert of one thing-- there are pluses and minuses to both but I just can't help wanting to try a fraction of all the wonderful things to do and be in the world!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have just recently joined the Couchsurfing website, but I have been unofficially hosting people on my couches in Santa Cruz for the past four years. This project provides amazing opportunities for people like me to meet people who live all over the world and to NOT be JUST A TOURIST when I travel. That is the last thing I want to be. It also provides me with the means to spend time away from home since it is an affordable alternatives to hotels (I dislike hotels very much and wish to never need one again!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have, over the years, crashed on many people's couches and also opened my couch up as a place for others to crash.

I fought off a monkey off at the foothills of the Himalayas where monkeys are more numerous than people. I saw a monkey smoking a cigarette, another one with a mouthful of noodles, another climbing up a telephone wire and falling onto the head of a barber who had a shaving knife to someone's throat! (No one was hurt).

I am a trained writer, and would be so happy to exchange/share/give feedback on poetry or any writing.

I know a lot about traveling in India, since I did it, and would be glad to talk to anyone going there (esp. south India).

I LOVE to cook and love cooking for and especially WITH people; hosts, be expecting a feast as a token of my appreciation! I would also love to learn to cook food from your country!

I know how to dance... I could try to teach the styles I have learned and of course I always want to learn more!

Also anyone who is knowledgeable on the conflicts in the middle east I would love to talk to you and pick your brain. It is something I should and desire to know.

LAst but not least, I love to learn languages and think it is very important for cultural awareness. It is also just fun. If you want to teach me some basics of your language I would LOVE that.
