HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING I have enjoyed staying at hostels during previous travels and meeting new people and having great conversations, but this time I decided to try something new for this big adventure. I hope to create meaningful friendships, and learn more about the culture of the city that I am visiting, through Couch Surfing, while saving some money for other cool things! *I am NOT looking for hook ups* COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE my one month trip to Europe in February 2019 was the first time for me to use CS. I had a wonderful experience being accommodated by 5 different hosts and meeting many interesting people along the way.

I have always believed that life is about creating positive value through one’s action. It is my mission to giving back to others and to have a positive impact on another person’s life. To realize this, I have engaged myself in various forms of volunteer work over the years. I have worked actively to give back to my local community, by volunteering at kindergartens and retirement homes, and have also had the privilege to do some work abroad, in countries such as India and Democratic Republic Congo. I would say that my most memorable volunteer experience was that in India, when I was 11 years old. I stayed in a remote village of Shillong with 15 orphans for 2 weeks, volunteering at the primary school built in the grounds of the orphanage. I mainly introduced foreign culture to the students of the primary school, many of whom were amazed to learn about another part of the world which they had not known had existed. Although I had a wonderful time interacting with the students, and bonding with the children in the orphanage, there were also some very shocking moments during my stay. Especially the times when I saw children, younger than myself at the time, having been abandoned by their families and left on the streets, because of "incurable" infections or diseases. A lot of these conditions were, in fact, not "incurable" but just seemed that way due to the lack of means and resources to cure them. I could not bear seeing the lives of these children, which could actually be saved, being lost. From that point on, I decided to pursue my goal to become a medical doctor, and eventually, save children who lose their lives from "curable" diseases. I hope to work as a member of "Médecins Sans Frontières" (in English, "Doctors Without Boarders") in the future.
