About Me
Talofa lava, bula vinaka, Ki ora and warm Pacific Greetings to you all!
My name is Avi (some say Ah-vee others Aye-vee lol), I'm a 24 year old psychiatric nurse who hails originally from New Zealand but spent a good chunk of my life growing up in Australia- ONLY to return back to Kiwiland for tertiary studies :D
Just moved to South Korea and did the crazy thing of leaving everything I know behind and moving to a new place with limited to zero English :D
PLEASE NOTE: If you send me a request, or I offer you my "couch", I am expecting to get a reply from you and updates about your status, (like if you found another host or changed your plans). I have experienced some who found a place to stay, but didn't even bother to tell me that they didn't need my help anymore or show up at the last min- CS is a community/ family, not an AirBnB or Hotel so please make a bit of effort there :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Why WOULDN'T you be on couch surfing?? :D
I heard about from a friend recently who had traveled all over South America and met a ton of hosts and got to experience a bit more authenticity of the cultures and places he visited by couch surfing!
I'm a bit of a networking and travelling fanatic so it just sounds like the best possible way travel! Especially for those who want to fully and deeply experience the culture of the place they are visiting. You'll always be able to learn new things, experience the culture from the inside , break out of comfort zones, network and be humbled by people's generosity. The world is so big and to be able to share life stories/experiences with awesome, open and friendly human beings would just be an epic thing in itself!
Also the guarantee that you'll be meeting new people and making new friends around the world is just an exciting and awesome experience I hope to get the chance to do more often! :)
Interests
Currently aside from travelling, I am attempting to learn the Korean language. am now an English Teacher in Korea for a year or more! (Whaaaaat?!) I enjoy being able to immerse myself in a different culture and just try to live as a wannabe-local while I'm in the area :)
I figured life isn't supposed to be all about working and paying bills, but it can be filled with all sorts of humbling life experiences if you chose to seek out the opportunities and take them when they arise :)

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm an avid reader (which is how my vision went from 20/20 to pretty bad in a few years once I fell in love with reading and did all sorts of things to stay up and read :)
Music: ranges from slow jam RnB, Irish folk music (love bagpipes for some reason), hymns,
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I had finished high school a bit early for my age and so went off to Cambodia to teach English in an orphanage and help build a few classrooms for a few months. Then went to Malaysia to do the same but ended up taking some hairdressing classes from a hair academy! (Not that I would ever trust myself with scissors to this day lol).
Teach, Learn, Share
Good conversation
Willingness to wash up dishes and help clean up
A little something from NZ, whether it be a postcard, key ring or recipe :)
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share my knowledge about my homeland NZ as well as my second homeland Australia :)
Being of mixed Pacific Islander/Asian descent, there is also a rich cultural foundation that comes with that territoy which I'd be more than happy to share.
Of course you also get a nurse on hand in case any funky stuff happens (let's hope not) lol
Vegetarian cooking skills, company, some good ole kiwi humour, dance lessons if you want to try learning some Pacific dances ;)- (you got to try it at least once right? :D ) and a new friend to exchange stories with :)
