About Me

I'm a lifelong autodidact with a weird blend of introvert + extrovert. I'm equally happy going out dancing on the town, tubing through an underground cave system, or sitting at home curled up with a book.

I'm prone to spontaneously breaking out in song or dance and will find the joke in any situation. Be warned.

I'm a religious Jew with various restrictions that often make travel complicated (the sabbath + kosher being the big ones), but I view them as a challenge rather than a limitation.

Just started a blog to document my thoughts and travels: http://anessaiver.com

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've come to realize that while I love to travel, the new sights and locations are actually secondary to me. What really makes any travel experience worthwhile is the new people that I meet, and couchsurfing seems to be one of the best ways to meet like-minded interesting new folk.

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
I listen to some of almost anything outside of rap/death metal. When I put my full music library on shuffle people often get confused by sequences such as Brad Paisley -> Linkin Park -> Wicked -> Sum 41 -> Backstreet Boys -> Flogging Molly -> Lion King -> Peter Hollens / Sam Tsui (Awesome youtube artists)

MOVIES
LotR, Star Wars, The Prestige, Pirates (the only real one), V for Vendetta, The Matrix, Ocean's 11, The Court Jester, Anastasia, pretty much any Disney

BOOKS/Authors
Yes. I read ~2-3 books / week so there's no way I can list everything,
Sci-fi / Fantasy is my primary genre, but I'll read anything I find interesting.
Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Peter V. Brett, Brent Weeks, Scott Lynch, R.A. Salvatore, Raymond E. Feist, Anthony Ryan, Tamora Pierce, James P Hogan, Heinlen, Ridley Scott, Ted Chang, Orson Scott Card
4-Hour-Body/Workweek/Chef, Thinking Fast and Slow, Blink, Sapiens, The Social Animal, The Power of Habit, Guns Germs and Steel, The Art of Asking, Influence,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My brother and I once went to a high-class nightclub dressed in full vintage 1970's disco outfits (white suits, 4.5" platforms, bling, etc). We ended up taking over the center of the dance floor in the R&B room only to have the DJ start blasting the Bee Gees and one of the bouncers come out and start discoing with us.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love learning about pretty much anything, and one of the best ways to learn is to teach. Take a look at my interests and I'd be thrilled to either learn more about any of them or to impart my knowledge to others.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun cocktail recipes, frequent bursts of song, computer expertise, good company, stories, intellectual conversation.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, England, Ireland, Israel

Countries I’ve Lived In

Israel, United States
