About Me

Hey! So I'm an English literature and linguistics student, studying in Jerusalem and enjoying every minute of it, but I guess you can't really know people just from these technicalities. I've always liked exploring people and places, but I also enjoy my own little bubble. I love traveling, expanding horizons and hearing new (and old) stories. The army has taken 2 years of my life (during which I learned a lot about myself and about the human condition) but after that I went traveling in Thailand and Laos and it was the first trip I've done with friends rather than with my mom, which completely changed the way I have traveled ever since (and taught me to never go on organized trips from my mom's workplace ever again).
Anyway, life is interesting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The first time I heard about Couchsurfing was when a friend couchsurfed through Europe and told me of the wonders of Couchsurfing. Ever since, it has always been in the back of my mind but I've never really considered it as an option due to traveling with relatively large groups of friends. But now that I'm traveling with one friend, I've learned that Couchsurfing is the best and only way. Hopefully after going back to Israel I'll find a decent apartment in Jerusalem and will be able to host.

Interests

I really like poetry and I also write poetry in Hebrew. Photography used to be my main hobby but then I realized I can't afford a professional camera, plus I became too lazy to go over thousands of photos all the time, so now it's kind of a marginalized hobby which I still like doing when traveling :} I played the piano for 12 years but unfortunately it's been neglected for some years, after which I forgot everything that I knew (still planning to get back to practicing and reviving it). Also a self-taught, amateur guitarist. I love watching movies and reading books/poems and then talking and thinking about them endlessly, analyzing them further and further still, only to remember some bit years later and go "Whoa, it's like in this and that movie/book/poem!"

Music, Movies, and Books

Seriously? impossible to answer. Those three things have been accompanying me my whole life and changing constantly. At this specific point in my life, I guess it would be:

Music: The Beatles, Keren Ann, Radiohead, Tenacious D, Zero 7, Regina Spektor, Alt-J, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Sigur Ros, Sun Kil Moon, Led Zeppelin, Avishai Cohen, Bon Iver, Matisyahu, My Morning Jacket, Chet Faker, The Cat Empire, Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, Neil Young, Eddie Vedder, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Dire Straits, The Doors, Fleet Foxes, Haken, Jeff Buckley, John Mayer...

Movies: Forrest Gump, The Help, Django Unchained, Before Sunrise Trilogy (yep...), Cinema Paradiso, The Terminal, Pan's Labyrinth, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction (and basically everything that Quentin Tarantino has ever made), Wristcutters A Love Story...

Books: Grapes of Wrath, Animal Farm, Lolita, Anna Karenina, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Little Prince, The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Catcher in the Rye...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's definitely not amazing but it's one thing I'll never forget: While tubing in Vang Vieng, Laos, I went into one of the outdoor parties on the banks of the river and there were free tequila shots so "somehow" I got really really drunk. At some point, while dancing, I noticed that there was a hole in my wrist. It was bleeding and I could see everything that's under my skin. Obviously the alcohol in my body made me numb so I have no idea how this deep wound came about until this very day. I couldn't feel any pain and I was mostly just laughing. I had to keep tubing but the water in Laos is not clean, so I had to hold my bleeding, wrapped-in-plastic-bags hand above the water while tubing down the river. There was no hospital or any legitimate medical service in this village so an Australian guy from my hostel, who claimed to have been a paramedic in the army, cleaned the wound and wrapped it in a bandage. It was only when I got to Luang Prabang, a city located about 9 hours by bus from Vang Vieng, that I had to convince the doctor (who didn't really know English) with hand gestures that I need stitches. Up until this day I sometimes stare at my scar and admire it.

Also, I hiked across Israel from the Mediterranean coast in the west to the Sea of Galilee in the east for 4 days, sleeping under the stars in random places.

+ I just finished a student exchange term in University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and it's been an amazing experience.
