“Come a day there won’t be room for naughty men like us to slip about at all. This job goes south, there well may not be another. So here is us, on the raggedy edge. Don’t push me, and I won’t push you. Dong le ma?” – Capt. Malcolm Reynolds, Serenity ⚓️

CURRENTLY (NOT) HOSTING IN CAIRO, EGYPT – Am on the road in Tunisia 🇹🇳. Sorry folks – will be back soon to hosting, inshahallah.

IMPORTANT!
Please READ my profile if you want to be hosted. Cut and paste requests are fine, I know how it is trying to get hosted, but at least add a small paragraph proving you’ve actually read my profile and understand what you're getting yourself into! 🤓

Please note: I am VERY particular about the kind of guest I’m willing to host—regardless of gender or orientation, that’s no issue. I’m just a bit different. Maybe slightly eccentric, definitely no filter, and 100% honest 😆. I hate bad manners and won’t hesitate to ask someone to leave if they disrespect me, my house, or are just being usey. 🚪

That said, I have positive reviews from a decade of surfing and hosting, and I pride myself on being a great host! 🙌

WHAT I CAN OFFER GUESTS/HOSTS
Company: Because I own my own company, my time is pretty much my own 🕒. I have lots of flexibility, so whether we spend time together or you explore on your own, it’s up to you! 🤗
Accommodation: I’ve got a sweet apartment in the embassy quarter of Maadi, Cairo 🇪🇬. It's a social and work hub, with a huge kitchen, private gym, games room 🎮, and a roof deck with a pool and bar 🍹. You’ll probably get roped into some of my wild adventures, or at least talked into doing the washing up 😜.
Eating: I love to cook 🍳 (studied it for years!) and my pantry is stocked with international spices 🌶. Feel free to use the kitchen—if you can teach me something new to cook, we’re golden! 🍽
Exploring: I know all the major tourist spots, but let’s be real—I’ve seen them a hundred times. Instead, I’m more into the back streets and bazaars 🛍. I’m a collector at heart! You’re welcome to join me there.
Adventuring: If you’re up for some deeper explorations, I’ve got a Land Rover Defender 🚙 I’m converting for desert exploration. I’m planning visits to the hidden villages of the Nile, the neglected pyramids, and other places most people never see 🏜.
Diving: I’m a certified diving instructor 🐠, and I’m a partner in a dive center in Dahab 🌊. So, if you want to dive, I’m your guy!
Sailing: I’ve got a 37’ sloop moored on the north coast ⛵. When sailing season is here, let’s hit the Med! 🌊
ABOUT ME
I’ve been lucky to make a few good choices in life that allow me to live with freedom. This gives me the platform to take on challenges that not only benefit me but also others 🌍. I work as a business investor in areas like empowering people and sustainable practices—especially in recycling and micro-industries ♻️. I spend my time wisely, and prefer new challenges that push me and the people around me.

MY LIKES
Polite people 🫶: On time, do what they say they’ll do, and can admit when they’re wrong. Humble, honest, and always right their mistakes.
Good food 🍲: Fresh, simple ingredients made with love.
Antique hunting 🏺: If you know a good flea market or bazaar, I’m in!
Laughter 😂: Life’s too short not to laugh—there’s enough seriousness out there.
Singing 80s songs 🎤: From the window of my car to anyone who will listen!
MY DISLIKES
Impolite people 🚫: If you don’t respect my time, I don’t have time for you.
Phone addicts 📱: People who need to snap photos of everything but forget the experience.
One-uppers 🙄: Life’s not a competition—it's a stir-fry. Peppers are just as good as mushrooms!
‘Open-minded’ but actually close-minded people 🤔
Sheep 🐑: The people who just follow the herd without thinking for themselves.
Onions 😩: I hate them so much, I’d hire a mad scientist to erase them from the earth (especially in curry).
EPILOGUE
If you’ve made it this far, I hope you’ve got enough to decide if I’m the kind of person you want to cross paths with in this wild world. Looking forward to meeting you! 😎👋

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I’m done with the ordinary. I’m not here for tourist traps or cookie-cutter experiences. I’m here to meet real people, get into raw adventures, and find the hidden gems most travelers miss. Couchsurfing is where I connect with folks who are looking for something deeper than just a bed to crash in. 🌍

I first joined Couchsurfing in 2012 when I needed a place to stay in a tiny town in New Brunswick, Canada—no hotels anywhere 😬. After a quick Google search for “stay in Smallsville,” I found exactly one Couchsurfing profile. I reached out, they said yes, and that was my first taste of what Couchsurfing was all about. I was hooked. 🌍✨

When I got back to my own Canadian smallville, I opened my doors to travelers, eager to pay it forward 🏡. Later, I found myself in Berlin, where Couchsurfing became more than just a place to crash. It was a gateway to meeting fascinating people who challenged my worldview 🤯. I even hosted as “the mobile couch” in my camper 🚐 for a while, joining countless meetups along the way.

In Prague, I had a more stable home for a time 🏙️ and decided to host more regularly, giving back to the community that had welcomed me for years 🤝. Since then, I’ve hosted and surfed across the globe 🌏—whether in war zones like Iraq and Ukraine ⚔️ or cruising through places like Germany, the Netherlands, and Bulgaria 🇩🇪🇳🇱🇧🇬.

兴趣

Archaeology, especially in the field of 'unexplained discoveries' and discussing potential undiscovered locations. If you are the type to go treasure hunting then we will have great talks.

Marine Archaeology and diving: as above but more onus on getting wet.

Ancient Mysteries: If you are interested in the questions such as 'where are we from?' and the like, but without lizards, then I am sure discussions will be entertaining.

Photography: I am a budding photographer and would love to take tips from any photographer, especially if you come bearing a full frame camera!

Magic: If you are a magi I want to learn.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

When the darkness settled, peering into the darkness and seeing the creature peering back at me, eagerly guarding the tomb of his master. What happened next was something I will never forget. I will tell you more upon our encounter.

(Finally someone asked me about this tale- sorry for the nightmares Marietta!)

As that's not something I technically did....I delivered a baby once. As that wouldn't impress a midwife I led 120 men into battle against exploding tanks armed with nothing but a stick. If you consider that more crazy than amazing then I once raised a baby pigeon I found on the floor of a carpark in Winchester. Whilst driving back and forwards to France. Smuggled it in my pocket. It flew away. They all do. If you are a pigeon and that is no big deal to you, I can say the alphabet backwards.

To be fair 'amazing' is in the eye of the beholder as one can only amaze with ones actions someone who is receptive to being amazed. Most of the time I am too busy living life to be amazed by it, or I'd probably get distracted and fall off. So its up to you to decide if I have amazed you my dear reader, future host, surfer, hangouts compadre or profile stalker extraordinaire....

Dont play with ouiji boards.

Don't touch things that are ticking and are not a clock.

Don't touch things that are a clock, and are not ticking.

Don't date sisters, but if this cannot be avoided, at least don't date sisters at the same time. (not personal experience, but a good friend of mines)

Don't lick jellyfish. (sadly I must admit to this being personal experience)
