About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Chasing my ultimate purpose in life: to change the world for the better!

ABOUT ME

Where to start... with the most important thing: my Number One dream in life is to somehow change the world for the better. So pretty much all my existence right now is shaped around that. I work a lot, I learn, I evolve. I create free software, write, donate, help people when I can. I try to bring happiness into the lives of the people with whom I come in contact. The gift of somebody's smile because of something I did is the most wonderful present I get out of a few hours of time. I respect life and the Universe, and I try to make the most of every moment I am given on this Earth.

I have already taken the first few little but important steps in accomplishing my dream. CouchSurfing, for example, is a way I give something back to the world. Then again, there are other ways to give: I donated some hardware to a charity organization which also helped me when I was younger and I'm sure it won't be the last time I give something back to them. I wrote a few important analysis articles on The Inquirer (a large IT website) for no charge at all, just to try and help people in understanding some things. These are all small feats, but the Butterfly Effect helps me dream that I did change the world, even if in an insignificant way, and, hopefully, for the better in the long run.

But my most important step in achieving this dream of mine is my Software Organization: Axonn Software Development. This is mostly about free and Open Source Software (such as my ASD Clock. When I find a few hours of spare time, in invest into ASD and I hope that I will bring a lot of good in the world through what I know to do best.

I joined CouchSurfing because it gives me an opportunity to help other people. Right now, I donâ

PHILOSOPHY

I already said this, but here it goes again: I live to change the world. This is my dream and my ultimate goal in life.

Something which matches my philosophy pretty well:

Science Saved My Soul @ YouTube

Letter From God To Man @ YouTube

I do believe in a Higher Power. I use the word God for it. I do not believe in religion, since all I saw coming from it is manipulation, murder, abuse and lies. Humans taint everything they touch, especially God. I think I'm also an agnostic. A theist agnostic that is.

I'm also very open minded. If I find any kind of limit or prejudice in my mind, I tend to destroy it or go beyond it.

Ah, and one more thing...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I like to host people from around the world, show them around my city when I can spare the time from my work. I got a nice room and I live in a nice city.

I also think I’m communicative enough to create a good atmosphere where we can learn from each other. I got quite a few friends around here which are also members of CouchSurfing and/or enthusiastic about this project so probably if you come visit, you will most certainly have company, should you wish so.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since I'm a bit too busy to travel a lot, most of my CouchSurfing experience was hosting. But up to this moment, even if I didn't host so many people, I had lots of fun, learned nice things and had good conversations with my guests.

HOSTING:

[@] A nice couple (Roberto & Heather) for 2 days while they visited Dracula's Castle in Bran.
[@] Another two nice travellers (Gabriela & Tom) for 2 days while they spent time in Brasov, unfortunately, bad weather seriously affected their second day.
[@] Scott Myers, a great american traveller who stayed 2 days at my place and with whom I found very many things in common.
[@] René Verheij, just see what I wrote for him. Nothing more needs to be said ::- ).
[@] Anca Maria Luca happened by my place for New Year's eve and we crossed together into 2009.
[@] When Bojan Brankov asked me for company in visiting Brasov, I couldn't refuse. We spent a few great hours talking and walking together.
[@] Frans & Mel, old online friends of mine were hosted by me for 5 days when I lived in Sweden.

Hosting so far was a very pleasant and new thing for me. It was a new adventure and I felt like I did something good. I love that feeling very much.

VISITING:

[@] In June 2009 I had the honor to be hosted by Tom, one of my previous guests. I stayed with my girlfriend and mother at his place in Vienna and loved it

Interests

Your religion, your philosophy, your purpose in life.

Computers, science, music, technology, books, games, movies.

I love talking with geeks like myself about computers and technology, *BUT* I think it's even more fantastic to meet people who are radically different than me. Those are the situations where you learn the most and find the greatest challenges in open-mindedness.

Music: where to start? I listen to a ton of music, it's one of my greatest hobbies. I am mostly into the rock/metal and electronica branches of music. Bands: Samael, Clawfinger, Dimmu Borgir, Hollenthon, Tristania, The Kovenant, Amorphis, KoRn, Therion, Agalloch, Pink Floyd, Black Sun Empire, Prodigy, The Crystal Method, Pendulum, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Eminem, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, Old Man's Child, Theatre Of Tragedy, And Oceans, Paradise Lost, Papa Roach, Ozric Tentacles (And this is less than 30% of the stuff I listen ::- D, only my favourites).

Books: Dune, the entire series (absolute all time favourite), R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms series, especially The Legend Of Drizzt and The Legacy Of The Drow, Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings.

Games: (had to add this here because I also love gaming sometimes, when I have time) StarCraft and Heroes 3 are my absolute all time favourites, I also love making maps for Heroes 3 WOG using ERM (that's a scripting language for the game). Other games I love: Diablo 2, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Transport Tycoon, Doom 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Prey, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3. Other games I appreciate: Half Life, Earth 2150 & 2160, Neverwinter Nights. These are the most important ones that I can think of now. I may have missed something ::- D.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Actually there are two major things:

1. Surprised my girlfriend by telling her that we're going in a short vacation in a city close to our Brasov, at about 100 KM. But when we reached that train station, I revealed to her that we're actually going to Prague.

So I took her 2000 KM around Europe, in Prague and Vienna. That was a hell of a surprise and I loved planning it, doing it and it was quite amazing for both of us ::- ).

2. In 2009, even though I was unemployed and living off money I saved in 2008, I decided to take my mother in a tour of Europe, as her health was declining rapidly and she was never out of Romania. Knowing that she would probably decline out of politeness or too much sacrifice for me, I just told her we're going shopping with the car. Instead:

We visited Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Amsterdam, Paris, Verona and Venice in a huge car trip covering 6000 KM in which both me and my girl shared the driving, with me doing 4000 KM in the 22 days of the vacation, even though I was a beginner, having just obtained a driver's license less than 2 weeks prior to the departure, also behind my mother's back. To say that she was flabbergasted would be an understatement. It was worth it and she deserved it. All our parents deserve it, we live because of them, good or bad (us or them).

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I teach anybody? Well, I'm quite adept in the IT field (software, hardware... computers in general) and I'm also an amateur astronomer. I know quite a lot about the Universe and even some bits of astrophysics. But computers are probably my strong point. I know them inside and out. Software: C#, C++, VB, PHP, SQL, HTML, JS, Flash. Hardware: a lot.

Oh and I am also pretty well informed in the field of sleep experiments ::- ). I've been doing quite a bit of Polyphasic Sleep and other sleep deprivation experiments: on myself.

What would I want to learn? Anything and everything ::- ). Sometimes I got a one-man-band philosophy and this makes me very open to anything new, especially in the fields of science and philosophy (especially concerning the Universe, religion, life and humanity).
