About Me

Hi! I'm Aya, I’m a 27 yo based in Berlin, originally from Tokyo but lived in a few other places as well.

I like to hike and just to be outdoors in general. I also love meeting new people, learning about their stories and how they live, trying out new things and discovering good food.

I studied engineering at university but now work in an unrelated field in IT, things to do with data + design. Patterns and symbols get me excited and recently putting more effort into learning languages but I wish I was better at memorizing things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To find good friends all around the world, to share experiences and to have a good time!

Interests

I love doing anything that takes me outside like hiking and camping out to watch the stars or just to be somewhere quiet. I also like spending time alone or with housemates inside the house when it’s cold with a good cup of hot chocolate. I love to hear stories. I recently started playing the piano again, trying out bouldering and climbing even though I’m terrible and scared of heights.

Music, Movies, and Books

Ashamed to say that I’m not too particular about these things. Recently I listen to a lot of piano music so I can try to play them on the piano, maybe more rock/folk and more recently jazz. I wish I read more books but one of the few I managed to finish recently was A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara which I really enjoyed.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I can sleep almost anywhere and I’ve slept on parking lots, in snowy mountains, with cows, sheep and horses, on the train standing up and a few other weird places. I quite enjoy walking trails and some of my favorites were the Golan Trail in Israel, the West Highland Way in Scotland, the Shinetsu Trail in Japan and the Lycien Way in Turkey.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can offer company, share food and I think I’m a pretty ok listener so if you want to vent or talk about something you’re excited about, I’m all yours.
