About Me

Born in Hong Kong, raised Vancouver BC, Canada. Enlightened in Europe

I am returning home after 3 years of work and travel in Europe. I have done a lot of Workaways around Europe (its similar to WOOFFING) so I picked up a lot of weird skills. It is also time for me to return the all the good karma that I received during my travels.

You can check out what I'm up to https://www.instagram.com/ayfung1/
I hitched over 21k km in Europe: https://www.hitchlog.com/en/hitchhikers/ayfung

Everybody loves check lists:
As a surfer
- Independent traveler but also happy to join in on any activities with you (How flexible of me)
- clean and respectful of your rules (Your house your rules)
- easy going, open minded, and always up for a good converstation (It's better than Netflix)
- unique perspective from growing up in Asia and North America (Cultural exchange I can rep two continents like a two for one deal!) and spending 3 years living around Europe.

As a host

- I live with my partner in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood (close to King Edward station) in Vancouver
- We can only host sporadically right now
- I can offer breakfast and dinner sometimes, Wi-Fi, showers, laundry, sheets and blankets and my time of course!
- I love the outdoors and in my opinion this is the best part about Vancouver so we can definitely share some adventure big or small

You as a surfer :
- write a thoughtful message and show that you have at least read a bit about me and why we would get along
- clean, flexible and independent (work is pretty crazy)
- willing to help and /or pitch in with food /cleaning
- OK with crashing on a sofa bed
- have references, or make a really good case why I should host you
- staying for 2-3 nights
- bonus if you have hitchhiked, are climbers, have good recipes
- please read the my home section

Thanks, I hope to meet you soon!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Ever since my childhood (probably from watching Tin Tin) I have always wanted to travel the world and backpacking South East Asia in 2014 confirmed that desire. So after finishing my degree and saving up some money, I am back at it again. This sounds cliche but I would like to meet locals and experience the city from their perspective. I don't want to be a tourist you know? I haven't been able to host much because I didn't have my own place but I hope that one day when I finally have my own family, we can host people from all over the world and teach my children about the world. I have traveled long term on a shoestring budget and I could not imagine how my trip would have been without all the amazing experiences that started here.

Interests

I am a generalist so I know a little bit about a lot of things. Outdoors, sports, and always in for a good conversation.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have to say the decision to backpack South East Asia by myself. Growing up in a sheltered but loving family, I lived comfortably. However, it also meant that I did not go explore new things and go on adventures. That trip allowed me to feel free again. The cliche goes something like you travel to find yourself but in a way, my trip opened up more question than the answers it provided. It kicked started my journey to take charge of my own life.

Anyways, I will never forget the people I met, the sight of the waterfalls, the sweet fruits I devoured and the excitement of speeding in a motorcycle in narrow streets.

I am very much into self-help sorta thing because I had to pull my deeply entrenched roots from the boring life I was living so come witness the transformation!

The transformation manifested itself in the form of three years working and traveling in Europe. I've grown so much and become happier as a result. I'm grateful for all the kindness the world has shown me and now it's my turn.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and how to swear in both if you desire to learn. I have become a pretty good cook especially with pancakes and fried rice. I can't teach you math but I know my occupation safety/health/wellness/ergonomics and I would be more than happy to share. I can also help with English pronunciations and help you figure out that unimportant word that keeps slipping your mind. If you're curious about Asian culture and want to know what to order at an Asian restaurant, I am your guy! If not I always have some cool travel/hitchhiking stories to share.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook some solid Italian/Asian dishes, super fluffy pancakes, and homemade ice-cream/desserts and do the dishes pretty well.
