About Me
CURRENT MISSION
take it as it comes
ABOUT ME
doctoral student- urban design and urban studies
working as an architect before, but have always wanted to pursue my dreams of lecturing and researching- I enjoy the variation between classroom experience and fieldwork (in Turkey) which allows me to spend more time travelling.
lived in a couple of different places and have visited a couple more, but not enough at all
I hope I never loose my curiosity and enthusiasm in everyday life and casual encounters
I am a pretty happy and balanced person with a high tolerance level. I enjoy a meaningful talk or just a chitchat and a coffee as much as I enjoy a party and dancing. I love roadtrips and not plan too much- spontaneous decisions on the way are the best.
PHILOSOPHY
What goes around comes around- one way or another.
Everyone is busy with something but no one's time is more precious than anyone else's. You can always make time for friends and family.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
One of my friends is a passionate couchsurfer and told me lots about it.
Ideally you gain both from hosting and being hosted, through the respect and interest of other people in you and vice versa.
This is what I think: CS is not supposed to serve as an economic activity. Furthermore it should be about the people you meet through CS and potential new friends you make all around the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
It's pretty much what we used to do in our larger network of friends; if one would go to a certain city, we'd ask around who knows someone there and this way I have stayed with friends of friends or had them over. The great thing is that now you can reach out to even more new potential friends in even more places :)

Music, Movies, and Books
After a long discussion I had with a good friend yesterday about different styles of music, we agreed that my favorite is Brit Indie Rock :P
Seriously, it's pretty much all the good stuff (beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder) from Barrett to Zappa- so it does go beyond GB, and also includes Turkish bands like Duman or German bands I grew up with like Die Ärzte, Die toten Hosen or newer ones like Wir sind Helden.
I love Tim Burton Movies and all that's bizarre. Even as a kid I had a fascination for skelettons, day of the dead stuff, dshinns and the like. I am also a big Wes Anderson fan ever since Rushmore and his movies keep getting better.
It's kinda sad, but it's been a while since I read the last non-scientific book; I need to read tons of stuff on migration these days, so I am gettin tired to read anything else, but I liked Irvine Welsh's stuff a lot or Turkish novels and poetry.
Well, this sounds like a odd mix, but I guess that's what it is- I enjoy the mix, the diversity and a certain balance.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One amazing thing I've recently done is skydiving, so much fun!
Teach, Learn, Share
Teach? Well, as soon as I leave university ground, my teaching job's done :) But I am eager to learn from the people I encounter, share my experience and contribute with my knowledge- not in an imposing way though; I'd rather listen.
