About Me

Hey,

I'm Ayrton Aubry, a French student in political sciences. When I'm not travelling, this occupation takes a lot of my time, because contrary to what is often said, the student life isn't that lazy. Besides, I have to be aware of the worldwide news, which can evolve very quickly.
I have many other hobbies, from music (playing and listening), to boardgame, and books, or movies. I try as much as possible to be "active" when I do something, (for example to understand the choices of the film maker when I watch a movie, etc.)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I registered on couch surfing quite recently, in July 2015, to do a road trip among Canada and the US, and be able to meet as many people as possible. It's also interesting to see the events organized nearby my place.

Interests

As I said above, Political sciences are a huge part of what I like to do, and it taught me to go beyond what we only see on TV or on internet. My interests are very wide, from the political life of the country I live in, to movies, boardgames, or music. I'm also very interested in sports, I'm quite good at table tennis, badminton, handball, volley ball, and I watch soccer when the team of my city is playing. During my stay in North America, I've been trying to understand the baseball rules and the different championships.
In France, I live in a city surrounded by mountains, where I do a lot of hikes during summer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I listen a lot of heavy metal and hard rock, and I've seen many bands in concerts or in festivals (ac/dc recently). Music is an important part of my life, and I listen also bluegrass, folk, French music, or even pop music. Depending on the period of the year, I listen classic music.
Book: I read many books, mostly fictions, in average between 20 and 25 a year. Right now I'm trying to read american classics, in English, and I've read a lot of Steinbeck, Fitzerald. When I was younger, I bought a huge part of Stephen King's bibliography, quite easy to read but very entertaining. I'm lucky enough to be born in a country with a very rich litterature, so I can (and I do) read Victor Hugo and other French authors in their original language. I also read non fiction, but it's mostly articles from peer review journals, concerning philosophy, history, political sciences etc.
Movie: As I said, I watch a lot of movies. Right now, I try to watch movies between 1900 and 1945, to understand the birth of this medium. My favorite film makers are Paul Thomas Anderson, Lynch, Nolan, Scorcese, Villeneuve, Tarantino etc.
