Overview
About Me
Pop culture and cultural studies nerd, straddling the line between crazy cat lady and Antonio Gramsci-lite. I'm the kind of person who will start a conversation about continental philosophy with you, but will probably not finish it.
My field of study is American Studies, and I left the US for Europe to continue studying it! I often get asked why. The simple answer is: if you wanted to draw a picture of an ocean, would you go swimming in it or stand on the beach? But in all honesty, I'm not sure I understand why. If I did, I would probably be in a different field by now.
The greatest yet banal joy I get is eating. In order to do that, I try to cook as experimentally as my kitchen and roommates will allow. There is something so lovely about a symphony of unique flavors playing off of each other, but only lasting for a short moment. I'm not fooled by this brevity, though; I would gladly live forever to enjoy the carnal experience of food again and again.
I love plants even though I have the opposite of a green thumb.

Music, Movies, and Books
At the moment, I am glacially making my way through Infinite Jest. Dave Eggers wrote a foreward for the version I am reading that mentioned he finished it by 27 (before or during, he didn't say), so I am using that as a benchmark. I want so badly to enjoy reading Pynchon, but always have trouble sticking through it. Only recently have I taken up reading some sci-fi classics, and what continues to stay with me are novels by Le Guin. I still kick myself for not having started my Le Guin education earlier. Movies, films, tv, theater: these are the things I can't get enough of. You know how they say "the older you are, the less you know?" That's me with entertainment. Every year seems to bring more to light, regardless if it's old or new. There never seems to be enough time to watch all the things on my watch-list.
Teach, Learn, Share
I make a mean guac.
