Overview
About Me
Hi there! I’m Azlan, a friendly, open-minded traveler and lifelong learner with a passion for exploring perspectives beyond the everyday. I’m curious about people, cultures, and the unique stories that make us who we are. I have a natural ease in connecting with others and love conversations that make me think and see the world a little differently.
By day, I’m an educator, but beyond that, I’m just someone who enjoys blending tradition with new experiences—whether that’s through sharing a meal, chatting about philosophy, or exploring local hidden gems. I like to believe in making the most of every moment and finding joy in the simple things. I can bring a warm smile, good energy, and a bit of interesting conversation to the table (plus a good story or two!). Always keen to meet people who appreciate life’s mix of depth and humor!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe the best part of travel is the people you meet along the way. Staying with locals and getting a genuine feel for a place beats any guidebook or tourist attraction—it’s those personal connections and shared moments that make every journey memorable. I’m here to both learn from and share with others, whether it’s a new perspective, a great local spot, or just a good story.
I love discovering places through the eyes of people who call it home, and Couchsurfing gives me a chance to experience that firsthand. Plus, it’s a chance to give back by welcoming others and sharing my own insights and experiences.

Music, Movies, and Books
My taste in music is a mix of soulful tunes and upbeat classics that can lift your mood or set a reflective tone—I enjoy anything with meaningful lyrics and a good rhythm. From old-school rock and jazz to soothing instrumental pieces, I like music that tells a story or creates a vibe.
When it comes to movies, I lean toward films that make you think, inspire, or have a bit of that feel-good magic. I’m drawn to classics, thought-provoking dramas, and the occasional documentary that opens my eyes to something new about the world.
Books? I’m always up for something that can make me see life in a different way. I enjoy both non-fiction, especially around philosophy and personal growth, and novels that dive into human experiences with depth and heart. I’m always looking to add to my reading list, so if you have recommendations, I’m all ears!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing experiences I’ve had was spending two weeks volunteering with marginalized communities in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. It was a deeply humbling and eye-opening journey that allowed me to connect with incredible people and gain a new perspective on resilience and community. Working alongside locals, learning their stories, and contributing in any way I could left me with unforgettable memories and a profound appreciation for the strength of human connection across cultures.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love sharing insights into my culture, especially around traditional values, education, and Islamic perspectives. I’m also happy to offer a bit of my experience in teaching and organizing events or just some practical language tips if you’re interested in picking up a few words in Malay!
I’m always curious to learn about different cultures, new perspectives, and personal stories that shape the way people see the world. Whether it’s discovering local customs, trying new foods, or picking up skills like cooking or music, I’m eager to broaden my understanding and gain new experiences.
I can share a good conversation, an open mind, and maybe a few interesting stories from my time teaching and traveling. I’m also happy to help out with any household or organizing tasks, and I bring a genuine interest in making connections and leaving things a little better than I found them.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I bring good company, a respectful and open-minded attitude, and a genuine curiosity to learn about my host’s world. I’m happy to share stories from my own experiences, including my time volunteering in Cambodia, my background in education, and a bit of insight into Malaysian culture. I’m also glad to lend a hand around the house, help with cooking, or share a few laughs over a warm cup of tea. I believe in leaving a positive impact wherever I go, so I’ll be sure to bring a good spirit and contribute however I can to make the experience enjoyable for both of us.
