About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"To be able to look back upon one's life in satisfaction, is to live twice."
- Khalil Gibran

ABOUT ME

My wife Angie (https://www.couchsurfing.com/users/2987812/profile), our kitty Randy Bobandy, and I are dipping our toes back into Couchsurfing, and are eager to meet some futurefriends. Will we get along? Good question, but I can't ask you because I'm an About Me box. So please take the time to look through my profile, and figure out if we have at least enough in common to enjoy hanging out together.

Me? I'm easy-going, grateful, down-to-earth, and some other adjectives. I'm an import to the U.S.A. from Vancouver, Canada, to be with my beautiful and amazing wife, Angie. We married in Portland, Oregon in 2013, and then moved to New Orleans a year later so I could pursue work as a public school teacher.

After 3 years of teaching a multitude of subjects at both the High School and Elementary level here in New Orleans, I decided to follow a different path and increase the impact I could make. Along with my partner Burnell Cotlon (seriously...google him...incredibly inspiring guy), I'm opening a new food business in the Lower 9th Ward, the hardest hit part of New Orleans from Katrina, and still neglected 12 years later. We are designing it to be a Co-operative business that will be community owned and operated, and hope to use it as a model to open further businesses that the community still needs. Needless to say, things are VERY exciting these days

We live in an apartment in an area called Midcity, just blocks away from City Park. It's a great neighborhood with nearby restaurants, bars, parks, grocery stores, and the rest of New Orleans is very accessible. There's a futon and possibly an air bed that we can put in our living room, and you can likely have the room to yourself.

I've loved hosting in past years, as it's made for some awesome lasting friendships with people all over the world. My wife and I will try to spend time with you, but since we'll likely be at least a little busy with life, it's appreciated if you bring a certain level of independence as a surfer/traveler.

Good times guaranteed!*

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed with a few great hosts during a roadtrip across the U.S.A. and back through Canada in Summer 2011.

On the homefront, I've hosted about 35 people since the beginning of 2010, and have had nothing but AWESOME experiences. Also, I was involved with the local Couchsurfing community in Vancouver, and attended events and meetups pretty often.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Here's three
1. Seeing little recently hatched Leatherback Turtles flip their way down the beach to the ocean at a protected hatchery in Gandoca, Costa Rica.

2. Skinny dipped off the wall in Dubrovnik, Croatia

3. Witnessed the first ever Canadian gold medal on home soil during the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, when Alexandre Bilodeau won the men's moguls on Cypress, beating out (dickhead) Dale Begg-Smith.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm an English teacher by trade, so I will be annoyingly eager to correct your English if you want me to. I also speak some French and Spanish, and would be happy to practice both.

I LOVE learning. Anything. Everything.
