Overview
About Me
something like an: English language instructor, sociologist, German learner, visual artist most of the time, lover of new spaces and places.
very in to keeping: chickens, bees, a garden, snakes as pets, fish as pets, friends, and a not too dusty bookshelf.
I studied art, nutrition, German, teaching english as a foreign language, and art history, but mostly sociology at university, but I am a highly curious person so I do not limit myself to any field. I started a research project in 2012 and I am currently working on turning that into a fully fleshed-out book. I am passionate about my research and would love to talk endlessly on it, and of course to hear just as much about your own projects.
currently teaching English at a Grundschule (primary school) in Berlin, Germany, for the 2014-15 school year.
I don't remember many quotes perfectly, but a good friend once told me that "how you approach anything is how you approach everything." that stuck.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I would love to see as much of the planet as possible. hostels can be stressful/ a total bore, so if I can possibly stay at someone's place while traveling, I would be honored and obliged to show my appreciation: I can cook, talk, walk, lend a good ear, ask good questions, swim, practice yoga, take photographs, be generally pleasant, etc.
Interests
myriad! anything I can critique and consequently grow from. I love to talk with people and work in teams, as we can learn from each person's experience.

Music, Movies, and Books
I consume too many of these to list. avid book-blog-recipe-reader and writer, and film-watcher.
current music favorites: björk, mogwai, more björk, dirty three, most classical and instrumental, bluegrass, other good things, kanye west,...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
spending summer whipping an acre of land into a gardening plot was an incredible challenge! I welcome more such projects.
in 2014 I biked up (and upwind) the coast of California. that has to be most challenging experience of my life. and thankfully I had a friend come with to share in the memories! they tell us that it is a miracle that we survived.
Teach, Learn, Share
a humble practitioner of: gluten-free baking (because food allergies); yoga; art-making; people-watching; thinking more than acting; struggling at foreign languages.
I have years of experience working with children in art and food educational programs in my local area. That being said, I am very comfortable with and enjoy being around all ages! Cooking, baking, cleaning are all my strong points.
In my hometown here in the US I run a workshop series, which I organized, that teaches people how to cook within minding the parameters of mild to severe food allergies-- problem solving through meal crafting is my specialty! I would love to cook and provide meals for your family in exchange for your couch/ floor space. Also, when on the road, I try to spend nearly every moment of daylight running about taking photos and soaking up the city—I can certainly be out of your way bright and early and not be a pest to your family’s operations.
What I Can Share with Hosts
