About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figuring out where my place is in the world

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Amy, and I would really like to meet you. Yes, you reading this right now. Why? Because I love to talk and travel and tell stories and hear stories and learn and experience and live life to the fullest. I also enjoy music, food, cooking, swimming, books, movies, dancing, singing and anything involving John Mayer.

PHILOSOPHY

To experience, to speak and to listen to each other. Its the only way to live and learn and grow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

After my initial hesitancy with the CS project, I have definitely warmed up to the concept. In fact, I think its pretty fabulous! If only all the people of the world could meet each other, over a cup of tea, sharing their home and their lives and stories. It would be a much more peaceful place ..

I'm looking to discover a bit more about my new home: New York!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I was introduced to the concept of CouchSurfing while on exchange in Europe. One weekend I visited an old university friend in Amsterdam and he further introduced me to a close knit bunch of CSers in his area. I was hooked.
During my spring break, I then CouchSurfed (by proximity) in Venice, Italy. Actually, it was a friend who contacted a couchsurfer who put us in touch with his friend. In short, lots of friends were involved, we made an excellent Indian dinner and he taught us how to make Venetian glass. Amazing.

Interests

Music (listening, playing, experiencing), travel, languages, books, films, dance, politics, science, stories, chai tea, Wikipedia, art, photography, Harry Potter.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - anything acoustic, Canadian or remotely sing-able (a random sampling: City and Colour, Florence and the Machine, Metric, Jay Z, Drake, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Adele and Regina Spektor)

Movies - I love drama. Dark, intense, passionate, funny, heart-wrenching and/or beautiful. Its how life should be lived. (Atonement, Things we Lost in the Fire, Garden State, Juno, Rachel Getting Married)

Books - I will read anything and everything I can get my hands on. Children's books, literature, chick-lit, best-sellers, your grandmother's recipe book.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

White water rafting on the St. Lawrence River outside of Quebec City, singing along with a bar-coach full of passengers on a train through the Swiss Alps, scuba diving a shipwreck in the Caribbean Sea, watching the Arcade Fire perform in a Scottish Castle.

Countries I’ve Visited

Dominican Republic, India, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
