About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See some world

ABOUT ME

I like to make things, primarily I make films but I'm curious about a great many things, and I'm always interested in learning more about the world and its people. It's great to have a drink with a stranger and hear their stories.

I spend much of my life in various creative pursuits, making films taking up a significant chunk of my time.

I grew up in Reading, which is near London and I plan to move up there in the next year. I have a scattered experience of travelling but I am about to go on a big trip across the American continent, I'll be in the U.S from February- May, and Central/ South America may- july.
I am eager to meet new people in new places, and hoping to give myself a good shake up, kind of a fresh start.

PHILOSOPHY

Remember: no fear, no envy, no meanness

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Being a new member I haven't had much chance yet. But I'm hoping to meet some great people on my trip across the american continent in 2013, being an entertaining guest... I guess I'll try spreading peace, love and good will?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've yet to couch surf! But I've heard many good things from my friends.

Interests

My life is that of a committed filmmaker but have a background in painting and a lot of other interests. I'm motivated to make things happen and enjoy the challenge (most of the time). I like meeting new people and catching up with old friends, though opportunities can sometimes be scarce.

Music, Movies, and Books

A very long list, so here's the tip of the iceberg:

Anything by Paul Thomas Anderson, Terence Malick, David Lynch, Bela Tarr, Nicolas Ray, Elia Kazan, Apichatpong Weerschakul, Spielberg, Scorsese, Ozu, Bresson....

Tom Waits, MF DOOM, Madlib, Captain Beefheart, TV On the Radio, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Pixies, Grizzly Bear, Clouddead, Mos Def, Roots Manuva, Leadbelly, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis....

Beneath the Underdog (Charles Mingus), Heart of Darkness, Solaris, Moby Dick, The Old Man and the Sea, On the Road, I love reading but generally I'm a bit slow at it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Getting into the Berlinale Talent Campus at a time when I was really struggling with confidence as a filmmaker.
Sunrise at a beach party in Bournemouth, on england's south coast with all my friends from Uni.
Seeing the salt lake's, deserts and mountains of Tunisia.
I'm awestruck on a regular basis by films I've seen and songs that I've heard.
Many various moments when making films, seeing the thing come together.

But I hope to have a more varied list after doing some travelling.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot of thoughts on a lot of things, I think i spend more time thinking than i would like to admit to myself. This is something I'm trying to rectify, but I have to admit all this pondering has come in useful, especially in conversation.

Determination and confidence to approach huge projects: I'm a DIY person who believes you can do anything with those qualities. I can't say big projects doesn't phase me but I've carried myself through many of these projects and continue to.

I was raised in a family that taught understanding and consideration of all. I hope these are qualities i can use to help others and gain incite in them and maybe qualities i can share.

I enjoy talking to people about their creative work, sometime more comfortably than talking about my own. Though its important to keep these conversations grounded, and in their place. I like to try to get inside peoples ideas and help them spark things off.
Though I sometimes wish my brain was filled with other things, I have a referential mind that will shoot off and return with a list of related ideas that I've seen. I often think if there was more time in life that I would like to spend more time helping people develop ideas, maybe in a teaching post.
