About Me

ABOUT ME

Basically the first thing my best friends would say about me is... Where in the world is Bailey?!
My favourite thing to do in the world is laugh! I'm always being positive and smiling. I'm a very sarcastic and cheeky person who loves to be an idiot and just fun and adventures. When i would have my friends around we would always have some drinks, barbecue, play board games and just have lots of laughs.
I'm a very chilled person and i like to just go with the flow. Thats not to say i enjoy just sitting around all day, no way. I love going on adventures. Im always up for doing something whatever it is, i'll approach it with a positive attitude and an opportunity to have another great experience.
You don't necessarily have to be doing something to be having a good time. You good just be chilling and chatting about anything and its great fun.

When i was 22 i was ready for a 'normal' life. Had a nice house and job, but then realised there are too many places to see and people to meet to be chilling around the house. So i made a brave decision to pack it all up and travel around Australia. Doing that allowed me to meet amazing people from all around the world. I learnt more in 6 moths of travel than i feel like i had my whole life before that!
I guess after that i had 'the bug'. Theres no way i can just hang out in one place my whole life. Since then I've travelled almost 50 countries and had crazy adventures that i could never forget.
Back in Australia i have been tour guiding in the Australian Outback. I would take 21 backpackers out in to the desert (to Uluru-Ayers Rock) on a 3 day camping trip. I would drive them, cook for them, give them information, hike with them and entertain them. We would collect firewood amongst the snakes and spiders, have massive campfires, sing along to bad songs and play dictionary on the bus windows! It is physically the hardest job i have ever done but by far the best and most rewarding. I love it!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because it is the best way to meet genuine local people. Staying in hostels and meeting other travellers is great of course but you don't get that experience of really meeting the local people.
And any body that is offering up thee couch to a complete stranger is the type of person i want to meet!
I'd love to get some advice of seeing a city from a local. After all they live there, they know.
I know i haven't hosted anyone myself but i have been travelling too much to be able to offer anyone a place. Also when i am back in Oz i am tour guiding for several days at a time and am unable to host. I will for sure be returning the generosity have received when ever i can.
I do return the favour in giving hitchhikers a ride or a meal or just helping out any other travellers anytime i can. We are a team and we need to help each other as much as possible. If you see someone is lost or having a hard time just stop and see if they need any help :)

Interests

The things that really grab my attention the most are music, sports and anything travel. I love every sport but mostly Australian football. I just love music, listening to it, going to concerts, and playing it (well trying to).
Any chance i get i like to go camping. I just being out in nature, hiking and having a campfire.
I'm not a big gym junkie but i do enjoy keeping fit by swimming or cycling. But most of all i love travel. Just the excitement and the challenge of being in a completely different country and embracing every new experience.

I think everyones interests are different and peoples knowledge and strength of topics can vary. So i love just having discussions with people to learn more about things and what they like. Just because you don't know about something doesn't mean you are stupid it means maybe you haven't experienced it yet or just care more about other things. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Ah such a hard question! Of course i like all music. I do prefer some over others. I do seem do be very patriotic and love a lot of Aussie bands. I bet there are a bunch of artists that are Aussie that you didn't even know!
I guess my favourites are more like alt rock, alt dance, Aussie hip hop and 60's.
Some of my for sure favourites are RUFUS, Snakadaktal, Six60, alt-J , The Rubens, Franz Ferdinand, Bon Iver, 360, Safia, City and Colour, The National, Lowrider, Silversun Pickups, The Jezabels, The Beatles, Enter Shikari, Regina Spektor, Rodriguez, The Kooks, Angus and Julia Stone.
You might not know a lot of these but thats because theyre Aussie bands. I could definitely introduce you to them though.

500 Days of Summer, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Inception, Spirited Away, Hot Rod, Fired Up, Juno, Into the Wild, A Love Song For Bobby Long.

I love any book written by Tim Winton. He's an Australian author who likes to include a lot of the Australian landscape in his writing. 'Dirt Music' is the best!
Well, and of course Harry Potter...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have just recently completed a trip from Hong Kong to Edinburgh without aeroplanes. It took 11 months and i can easily say it has been the best year of my life. From hitchhiking with local farmers to taking 53 hour vodka fuelled train rides across Russia. Not using aeroplanes has been the best decision i have made. You have a different mind set and you are able to be completely absorbed in a country and their culture. It has forced my to put myself out there and really see how beautiful and considerate people can be, even if they have nothing but a big smile!

Also my job. For each and every tour i would for 3 days drive a bus 1600kms, get to know 21 awesome people, ensure they love their adventure that they have looked forward to for so long, fight off dingos, scorpions, snakes and spiders, hike in 45C degree heat, accidentally swallow 10 flies and come back to town so dirty and tired. And i would love every minute of it!

Another experience would be working as a life guard and camp counsellor at an American summer camp for 3 months. Just meeting and getting to know all those great kids and fellow staff members. And then after summer finished 7 of us road tripped across the country from Miami to Los Angeles. We had so many great travel experiences like Disneyland, New Orleans, route 66, the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Yosemite NP, San Fran and LA. Some of best adventures i have ever had.

Teach, Learn, Share

I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals i have eaten, even so, they have made me.

Chaos is the law of nature, order is the dream of man.

You have to take the good with the bad- I simple quote that everyone knows but i think is very underrated.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good times and good laughs. I can exchange good conversation and experiences. For sure we will both have good memories and a friend for life afterwards.
I love to talk to people about my country, Australia.
I love to exchange travel stories and adventures.
I have lived in many share houses and completely respect peoples homes and as i am being welcomed into someone else home i would do my best to show my appreciation and respect to you and your home :)
