ABOUT ME

I am currently a double-degree student at Oberlin College and Conservatory. I am officially a horn performance major right now, and I am also interested in vocal performance, theater, and film-making. I am very friendly, enthusiastic, and optimistic. I am also a very reflective person and value meaningful relationships with people.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to be a liaison between couchsurfers and people in my hometown, because there aren't very many couchsurfers in my area. I spend most of my time away from Shawano now, but I still have plenty of family and friends there to connect couchsurfers with.

Interests

I love to dance! Tango, blues, swing, contradancing - you name it! I only very recently discovered this passion for dance, and I am definitely interested in learning all different styles. I love to play music, sing, and act. I enjoy painting things - particularly bicycle helmets and t-shirts for my friends' birthdays. I enjoy reading and writing, watching movies and making movies, cooking and eating. Really, though, I think I am most interested in people. I generally prefer talking to people over any other pastime.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently read some of Rilke's poetry and his Letters to a Young Poet, which I really enjoyed. A short list of my favorite books would be Lonesome Dove, A Little Princess, the Harry Potter series, and anything by Frank Herbert.

Some beautiful documentaries that I've enjoyed lately are Waste Land and Baraka. I've always liked old movies with Audrey Hepburn in them, Disney movies of course, Monty Python, and the works of Mel Brooks. Some others: The Matrix, Donnie Darko, American Beauty.

I love brass band music, particularly the soundtrack to the movie Brassed Off. Also, the Titanic medley by the London Horn Sound is gorgeous. I love Debussy, Chopin, Gershwin, John Williams, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. I love the music from Les Miserables and Jekyll and Hyde. The soundtracks from O Brother Where Art Thou, Across the Universe, and Moulin Rouge are beautiful. I am also a fan of Journey, Def Leppard, Toto, Styx, Abba, Shania Twain, and Lady Gaga.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have musical skills to share - I sing as well as play horn, piano, trombone, and a little cello. I am also good at making things with my hands and creativity - artwork, models, theatrical sets, elaborate birthday cakes, etc. I would like to learn how to knit, and improve my skills in making pottery and sculpture. Actually, any sort of art or craft is extremely interesting to me. I am also interested in learning how to dance and cook better.
