ABOUT ME

Word of warningThey are things I do not like as a host and want all my potential surfers to respect. After reading the list, you may think I am a weirdo (and you may be right):I want you to ask first, before you use my stuff. Usually I am going to let you use almost anything, but want to have things under control. E.g. if you take some food, I got to know first to resupply the kitchen. It is frustrating if something is missing from the fridge what I expected to be there. So only use what I specifically tell you is for you to use.Do not clean at my place. Extension of the previous rule. My place is not messy, but sometimes I end my work late and start early the next day, with no time or energy to do the dishes or I leave some clothes around. But I have "a proper place" for everything and as a surfer you do not know where. By trying to help me you only make me confused.I do not cook and am not interested in cuisine. Please, do not offer to cook for me - I eat simple and want to keep it that way. Also do not expect me to have variety of herbs and spices in my kitchen. Whatever ingredients you want to use for cooking, you will mostly need to bring yourself. My average room temperature is about 18,5-19°C. I like it that way, but for some it might feel a little low, but I can always give you an extra blanket or two.Sometimes I snore. Not always, but one cannot really control that. Earplugs are available here for light sleepers :)What is my professionMainly I am a teacher of social sciences (modern history, political science etc.) - check my LinkedIN profile for details about my education and experience, if you like.Who am I outside workThere is some basic information about me on my Facebook profile. I am interested in politics, modern history and humanities in general. I also enjoy cycling (but mostly for local commuting) and certain types of films and music (as listed in the section below).

PHILOSOPHY

I believe in individual liberty of action, but one should always bear in mind his share of responsibility for the outcomes of these actions and set boundaries for oneself accordingly.

I am trying not to judge people too quickly - CS is a good training for that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a strong feeling that I should "give" something to the community by hosting, before I start to consider traveling and it turned out it could be equally as interesting as traveling myself. At this point I have been hosting people from various countries, but some are still missing, so my plan is to host someone from Africa when I get the chance.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As a host I am trying to welcome every surfer the same way I would like to be welcomed. So far I have not been disappointed, except small glitches in communication from time to time - but that is natural for any human contact.

Interests

cycling (as a basic mean of transport)
movies (Coen Brothers, Paul Greengrass, Terry Gilliam etc., documetaries)
music (Rock, grunge, Britpop and oldies)
politics (as an observer, rather than participant)

philosophy (particulary political, moral)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There is hardly anything that extraordinary that would blow someones mind...
With 7 billion people living around, any experience can be topped by someone else.
From the ordinary things that keep bugging me:
I have seen people amazingly selfish and self absorbed and I have seen others, generous and caring. Such differences make it hard to pass judgements on humanity.

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I teach

As a professional teacher, I will gladly provide a lecture or have a discussion about following topics:

- 20th Century History
- Politics (Theory of Government)
- International Relations
- Introduction to Economics
- Introduction to Sociology

Fun stuff

I have an unicycle which you can borrow and try to ride. It is easier than most people believe (about 10 hours or less to learn).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
