About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To be more Couchsurfing than you!

ABOUT ME

Basic facts that every CS profile must have: I'm openminded and like to meet new people and experience new things and exchange cultures. Of course, I'm also easy-going. I also know when to shut up and I guess I'm quite laid-back, at least most of the time. I like to take life with a grain of salt, so to say, can laugh to myself and many other things as well. I'm just a regular guy working in a laboratory with way too little free time. Trying to enjoy life the best I can. What else? Maybe I should mention I'm a vegetarian, since so many people have that in their profiles. Doesn't mean you have to be, though. Quite social but not 24/7. Music, comics, books and movie nerd. Occasional beer drinker.

PHILOSOPHY

I just try to live my life how I want, not how others want me to do it. Just trying to be good to people and the world around me.

I will write here a wise quote in the future, right now I just can't recall any.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

It's the best way to find the information that you need when travelling. No more four-hour google sessions, just find the right group and somebody will help you. Of course I'll try to do the same, so don't hesitate to ask, if there's something you think I might be able to help with. I'm more into hosting than surfing, I do both occassionally. Maybe I can even show you something interesting in Hellsinki.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In August 2009 I lost my CS virginity and met this CS guy in Italy. He was rad and it was so nice to wander around the city with someone who really knows it. I got so much more out of it than I could do by myself.

Oh, and last week, autumn 2009, an estonian couple stayed at my place. They found out about me thru CS. I had a nice time with them, unfortunately they stayed only for awhile.

I was in travelling in Canada for 4,5 months in 2009-2010. I met lots of people thru CS, mostly it was good and Vancouver CS meeting was just great.

Hell, I've even attended Helsinki CS meetings. Three times.

And, September 2011 I finally surfed.

Interests

Football, music, both live and recored (punk, hardcore, sometimes also ska, metal, hip hop...), reading (everything about classy losers like Welsh, Tervo, and Steinbeck), swimming, paddling/kayaking, travelling, movies (mafia/yakuza/gang wars stuff etc.), beer (moving from quantity to quality), writing. I also like to know what's going on around the world. Lately I've been getting into hiking, altough don't ask me where to go for it in Finland.

Music, Movies, and Books

Old school punk rock and hardcore is the ultimate thing. 80s heavy metal also. Some more experimental hip hop works as well, and lately I've been getting more and more into soul and funk and such. Here's a list from A to Z, I stole this idea from my friend, hanx Jörg.

ACDC/Bad Religion/Clash/Dag Nasty/Entombed/Funkadelic/Gray Matter/Herbaliser/Inside Out/Judge/Kinks/Lagwagon/Minor Threat/NOFX/Operation Ivy/Parliament/Queers/Ramones/Suicidal Tendencies/Turbonegro/Uutuus/Aino Venna/Wasted/(insert any generic 90s straight edge band name with x in the beginning and end/Youth of Today/Zeke

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

No nothing. My life is a bore. Most of the times.

I've been working in kindergartens. Small kids are great and amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I like to try new beers, so hints about them are welcome. I can probably recommend something as well.I would finally like to learn proper Swedish. So, if you know the language and don’t mind using it instead of English, I’ll probably grab the rare opportunity to speak it.

Update, August 2012. Yesterday I discovered I'm able to teach the basics in kayaking. So if you're in Hellsinki at the right time, feel free to ask.

I'm quite a nerd. If you need some silly details about old hardcore bands or Marvel characters or whatever stupid pop culture stuff, I can maybe provide them.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can probably cook you something typically Finnish. I also have quite a lot of stories to tell, so chances are I could be interesting company.
