About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Do couchsurfing in Rome in Feb/March 2013!

ABOUT ME

I think I'm an openminded person, interested in foreign cultures, languages, people and landscapes. In my holidays I enjoy traveling and doing something outside, e.g. going by bike, hiking etc., but also visit cities and interesting places. When I travel to a new city, I do not only want to see the typical attractions, but experience the characteristic atmosphere of a city or a district. I’m happy if I find a nice, personally arranged café where I can relax, watch the people, read a magazine and try local food and drinks. In my free time in Germany, I use to do similar things. Additionally, I like baking and cooking, also sewing easy things (e.g. a loop scarf or an apron) and, of course, activities with my friends and family.

I am 27 years old and grew up in a village near Bonn with my parents and my two sisters. After finishing my A-levels, I moved do Münster, where I studied business administration. During my studies I spent one semester at Warsaw, Poland, which was really interesting. I did internships in the consumer industry and also in a business consulting company, but after finishing my studies, I just shortly worked as a consultant, because in the long term, I preferred to become a teacher. So I added some semesters at university and studied maths and social sciences. In May 2013, I will start to work as a trainee teacher at a secondary school. At the moment, I live in an apartment in Siegen, together with my boyfriend, who works as a teacher already.

By now, I've visited many European countries (Italy is my favourite one, also because I speak Italian), but there are many more European countries left to be explored - and all other countries on other continents all around the world!

PHILOSOPHY

You only live once - so consider your life as something precious. I want to enjoy life and do things that make sense. I hope that when I'm old I will look back at my life and be pleased with it. :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My boyfriend and I did couchsurfing in Ireland in 2009. We had three wonderful hosts at different places.

Interests

I would like to travel some more and get to know nice places and persons all around the world! Probably, I will continue my travels in Europe first, because there are so many interesting places left!

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite school book is/was "The Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger. Good old Holden is a really cool guy I think. :-) And I liked "Das Parfüm" by Patrick Süßkind. Basically, I do not read many novels, but this one was really good. Also "Das Orangenmädchen" by Jostein Gaarder. I rather read non-fictional books. I just finished "Politik zum Selbermachen", in which the author describes typical scenes of daily local politics in an amusing way to those who might be interested in getting involved with politics on a local level.

What else? I like the TV series "The Big Bang Theory". If it existed in reality, I would like to do couchsurfing on Sheldon's couch or at Penny's. ;-)
And I like to watch the German "Tatort" on Sunday
evenings (it has become kind of a tradition).

When it comes to music, I'm quite flexible. Apart from traditional German "Volksmusik", I listen to almost every type of music. Maybe, it's the mix that makes it interesting to me. I like both Italian pop songs and classical music (e.g. The Four Seasons - Summer by Vivaldi) and HipHop, just to name a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

What comes to my mind right now is a hiking trip I did in summer 2007. With a group, we climbed on a mountain and had to pass several sheer rock walls (but secured by ropes and karabiners). Eventually, we reached the top of the mountain and had an amazing view! I would like to do that again!

Teach, Learn, Share

I would like to improve my English, Italian and French language skills. Besides that, I'm interested in learning some kind of crafts techniques that I mostly did not learn at school or at university. My grandmother and my mother taught me how to sew (I just made a loop scarf for me and my niece). I could teach you how to do that. I myself would like to learn, for instance, how to do a cool linoleum print or how to dye silk and make a pattern with wax, just to name a few things. I would also like to cook a meal with you!
