Overview
About Me
I'm a graduate of Translation and Interpreting Studies from Izmir, Turkey. Having obtained a scholarship to study European Governance and Political Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, I'm now in Belgium for at least a year since August. I can say that politics, languages and art are among my favourite discussion topics, but I don't like to limit myself as I'm open to any suggestions.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My first experience using Couchsurfing was during my one-month trip to Italy. I started using this account in order to meet new people and to be hosted while travelling to different cities of that beautiful country.
Now, having learned that I'll be living in Belgium for a year during my master's studies, I've once again decided to use this platform to get to know new friends during this adventure of a lifetime.
Interests
Coming from a background of language studies, the fact that I love languages does not require further explanation, but I'll give one just in case. Studying Translation and Interpreting changed the way I look at the world around me while enabling me to get paid for doing something that is intellectually stimulating and satisfying.
In my third year, I have developed an interest in EU affairs, and that had nothing to do with the professor being quite handsome. Anyway, seeing that I excelled at courses and discussions, I've decided to deepen my knowledge of European politics. I read a lot of news and articles to prepare myself to pursue a master's degree in this field.
In addition to my academic interests, I absolutely adore classical music and art. I love seeing exhibitions so much that I decided not to eat for a day to see the Vatican Museums without waiting in the queue for hours. As for classical music, I believe Tchaikovsky and Rimsky-Korsakov have the keys to my soul.

Music, Movies, and Books
In addition to classical music, I like listening to 70s and 80s pop music, especially Donna Summer and Diana Ross. I also appreciate newer music, such as the songs of Lana Del Rey and Florence + the Machine.
I have to admit that I'm not a huge movie person, I like seeing Hollywood classics as well as period dramas.
I love reading fiction, but nowadays I prefer non-fiction books. My favourite books include:
- One Hundred Years of Solitude
- The Catcher in the Rye
- Nineteen Eighty-Four
- Crime and Punishment
- Lily of the Valley
- Sapiens
- Guns, Germs and Steel
