I am Geologist working at Syncrude Canada Ltd. I also am an environmental scientist so can judge both the mining aspects of the oilsands, and the reclamation procedures taking place. Into hiking, camping and biking, with mountain backpacking being my favorite. Also a member of Skyline Hikers of the Canadian Rockies where I am the Registrar, map maker, and Newsletter editor. I've been active in Fort McMurray for 13 years now and attend several Meetups groups.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people from around the world - many have inspired me to visit their countries (Spain, Germany, Canary Islands, Turkey, New Zealand). I consider myself a world traveler. I believe that supplying accommodation for similar-minded people in the world is my way of giving back.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm stuck in the 60's, 70's and 80's for music. I can name most songs that come on the radio within 5 seconds or so. My favorite movies are mysteries, sci-fi, comedies. I like James Patterson, Clive Cussler, Robert B. Parker (Spencer novels) and a host of other authors.

Teach, Learn, Share

I also give Geology lessons to Grade 3 classes in town. I bring a host of rocks and minerals, provide an Oil Sands quiz I developed, and describe the life of a geologist.

I can explain both ends of the Oil Sands to people that visit Fort McMurray by telling about the geology, and how the companies plan on reclaiming the land. I lead summer hikes along the river to show the oil sands in outcrop and talk about all aspects of the material.
