About Me

Hello there, I'm Bart, a 20-year old student currently living in Amsterdam (mind you ,the Bijlmer).

I am currently in my second year of my BA European Studies at the UvA, doing a major in European Culture and Literature, meaning I have an interest in both, and I probably will be part of the unemployed community in a few years, but hey. I waste most of my time listening to records, making music, and talking (sometimes serious, mostly bull)shit with my flatmates, friends and strangers. I spend most of my money on cigarettes, records and beer, seeing as they usually facilitate 'gezelligheid' (Dutch) or 'hygge' (Norwegian), which does not have an adequate translation in English, but would mean a good time with other people than yourself. That should give you a small impression of my day to day life, and a little information on the way I work.

I have, unfortunately, not traveled much in my life, though I have seen most of Western Europe (a term of which the meaning is known to most, but is neither based on geography or culture, and the name itself is therefore mostly total bullshit), and am currently, slowly but steadily, exploring Eastern Europe (same goes as for Western Europe). As mentioned earlier, I carry a huge interest in the workings of culture and cross-border relations and similarities, and can talk about most things related to culture or people as a group, many other serious subjects such as politics and economics, but I can easily rant on about music for a few hours, talk shit, or just not talk at all.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

New people is almost always good, and I'd guess that the people on Couchsurfing are interesting and open seeing as you're all open to stay at some random guy's or girl's house.

To be completely honest with you, I am on Couchsurfing because my flatmate was on it, and it looked fun, and also I wondered whom of us would get more requests, so there's that, the cat is out of the sack (or the monkey is out of the sleeve, if you Anglify the Dutch saying).

Music, Movies, and Books

Ehm, I can enjoy all music which is brilliantly put together, most music with well-written lyrics (be it in meaning or how poetically or funnily they have been written), but mostly I am into various forms of rock ranging from psychedelic to feel-good, techno, (disco-oriented) house, disco and loads of other stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Don't really think I have done anything amazing, to be honest. I'm quite dull.
