About Me

ABOUT ME

Dear Stranger,

First of all, I have no idea why the hell you would like to visit Antwerp. I mean, yes, we were the biggest, richest and meanest city of Europe back in 1500, but we lost our top spot a looong time ago ... :)

However, if you - for some inexplicable reason - do end up in Belgium, it would be a shame not to visit Antwerp. After all it is by far the greatest Belgian city our little Kingdom has to offer. Forget about Brussels, screw Bruges, Antwerp is where it's at!

Seriously, every single bar has countless different kinds of beer to offer the thirsty traveller! Don't the other cities you mentioned offer the same liquids you might ask? No. No they do not. They reaaally don't.

So, IF you end up in Belgium & IF you are willing to visit Antwerp, I will be more than happy to show you around ...

P.S. I am well aware that this is not even remotely a description of myself. But there is no need to start pointing fingers already, we just met Stranger.

PHILOSOPHY

"The major lesson of life seems to be that just when you think you've understood things, something happens to turn your understanding upside down and inside out. So I suppose life has taught me nothing. Which is as it should be." (Stephen Fry)

And if everything else fails, well, twice up the barrel, once down the side ...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

By showing people the best bars in town. Because who doesn't like beer! You don't? Why are you coming to Belgium again? The amazing wheather?

I can also annoy you with useless facts about our wonderful city. For example : the Cathedral is 123 meters in height. Coincidence? I think not.

Interests

Like almost every CS member I imagine, I love travelling, which is kinda stating the obvious no? I mean, I didn't stumble on this website looking for lasagna recipes.

What I like most about it is meeting the people and getting a feel for the local culture (basically eating everything that I can get my hands on, an approach which has had mixed results, obviously :).

Movies are also a given ... Unlike most of my friends I love "old" movies, basically meaning everything in black & white. So if you are a James Stewart fan, we are going to have no problem getting along. :)

Cooking is also something that relaxes me very much, so if you ever land on my couch, a decent meal is guaranteed.

And diving! Just to get something on here that at least sounds a bit exciting. Unless you are a diver yourself, then you're obviously on to the fact that it's nothing more than merely "breathing under water", where is the excitement in that?

We could go on, but seriously, who cares ... :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Yes, yes and yeees !

- Movies : Intouchables (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1675434/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3) Go see (or download) it. As in, right now! Or not ... but at least watch one of these then : basically any James Stewart or Cary Grant movie and everything by Billy Wilder (except for 'Kiss Me Stupid', unless you're male, because it has Kim Novak in it, yay).

- Music : Boz Scaggs - Miss Riddle. Most relaxing song ever.

- Books : If you hate reading, please torture yourself just once & finish "Fooled By Randomness" (N.N. Taleb). You will not regret it. And even if you do, well ... those are a couple of hours of your life you will never get back. ;D
If you love it however, as I'm sure you will : try The Undercover Economist as well (T. Harford), or Freakonomics & Superfreakonmics (S. Levitt), The Tipping Point (M. Gladwell) and finally something by Roald Dahl. Because at least something by Dahl I actually understand. The other titles just sound funky.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

"Amazing" must be the most overused word out there, no? "Oh you went to China? That's amazing!" No. No it's not. Millions of people go there every year, so it is actually very common dear. What is "amazing" is the fact that I'm still alive after the millions of cookies I've eaten during my 3 decades on this planet. THAT is amazing. Mmm cookies.
